My friend owned one of these. He said it was the worst M5 he ever owned. Nothing but problems. Its no wonder they are cheap now. Not worth it to buy when you will spend more fixing it.

All those parts can be swapped into another 4g or 5g prelude and you can have an awesome/streetable setup! Easily $10-15k USD in parts. That Greddy turbo kit is also very rare and it is A/C compatible. Definitely something you need a garage for but a great deal if you have the means.

Isn't the R8 V10 the same as what they put in a Lamborghini? Don't they catch on fire?

I agree viper V10. That engine is old school OHV big displacement engine. Nothing fancy, and no tech. I would guess to rebuild one wouldn't be that costly as well.

Ford's Triton V10 is pretty reliable. Not perfect but routine maintenance kept them going. My friend had one way back in the day and it was pretty hilarious to drive.

Obviously not a car motor from factory but it could be swapped into cars if you wanted.

lolz, the XJS is what I drove to grad in. Didn't mind the looks back then on my dad's that was jet black, but man was this thing the definition of freight train with SOS pads for brakes. Had to start steering and braking miles ahead of the target or else you were dead, lucky for the driver there was 8k lbs of steel in front of them. Had to complete 2 engine rebuilds in his ownership, now it is rotting in his driveway. RIP

Doesn’t mean they’re the same engine. Ferrari and Maserati both have v8’s but they don’t share an engine. For example Maserati don’t run crossplane cranks vs all the Ferrari.

Also, I don’t think it’s fair to include the triton v10 in this discussion lol

i have owned 2. 08 E60 M5. motor was super reliable. Drove it over 30K kms with zero issues. Clutch went under warranty because of stupid SMG. Overwise no problems

I have a 2011 R8 V10, have driven over 5k kms, absolutely no issues, been super reliable.

Don't know of a reliable v10 but I know of a v12 that should be reliable. Regularly see Toyota Century at auctions with 250,000km. Probably lived a hard live as a limo or fleet.

Actually I'm pretty sure they share the same engine family, they might have different displacements and different crankshafts but it's the same engine

That's true the crank is different but the block, heads, and basically everything else is the same between the engines. They are also built by Ferrari in Maranello and then shipped to Modena for assembly by Maserati. I did the factory tour for both Ferrari and Maserati and its absolutely amazing.

Y'all ain't got nothing on my cars.

My old Element was just shy of 360k kms before getting totalled. Ran a compression test a few months prior with perfect results.

My Corolla is around 274k kms now, zero issues as well aside from the usual blowby from the 1ZZ motors.

Meanwhile my old leased E90 needed a motor rebuild under warranty less than 30k kms in.

Yeah those K-series motors are tanks. Never burned a drop of oil either.

when did you do valve adj, if ever? rougher idle or just preventative?

E60 M even with all that bulk seems like such bargain for the performance that you get, but at end of the day it seems to still require supercar-caliber maintenance from the wallet

nothing that the average RS poster can't handle though (if the latest pic of my whip and real estate feeds are any indication)
