1. mini jcw $56k
2. civic type r $56k (if you can get at msrp)
3. GR rolla premium $62k!! Wow they went up in price
4. VW golf r black edition akrapovic exhaust $60k

Feel like golf r and type r is the best value
test drove the 8.5 Golf R black w/ the akraprovic exhaust the other day. Yeah it's fast but doesn't feel that fast (idk how to explain), feels kinda numb like digitally fast. The car packs a lot of features but feel like most are gimmicky. Hate the center console with all the piano black plastic and the proper gear stick is gone now (the one in the new 911 looks and feels a million times better).

watch savage geese recent comparo between the GR Rolla vs Golf R, on dyno the corolla is down about 100whp which is insane but yes it's not all about hp and torque

The Golf R is still probably the best all around daily out of the 4 above mentioned tho

Because you're looking at the spec sheet

1) Trash engine in the Mazda, loses steam at like 4k rpm; not even in the same league as the Type R or GR, and those engines aren’t exactly perfect either.

2) Complete trash chassis, that torsion beam crash over bump and leans like an SUV; not even in the same continent.

3) Trash automatic in the Mazda, you can count the lag in shift out loud.

4) Trash AWD in the Mazda, it's some brake biased FWD cosplay

First time you turn the wheel, hit a bump, or give it more than half throttle you will feel the hodgepodge of CX50 parts it's made of.

Low-key this is why I hated being a product planner at Nissan - every meeting was, “yeah we all love cars, but the buyers are either gonna nitpick or are too broke to buy 400Z/iDx/new Silvia even if we made it.”

Well you're missing adaptive suspension that's probably worth around 10K and with a quick Google search, looks like brembos are missing too (and I see many complaints for soft or bad brakes.

While RZD gave you the technical differences, let me ask you this, can you take the Mazda 3 to the track out of the box? No. Can you with the other two cars? Yes.

corolla will limp after losing its AWD system.

I'm cut from a different school of thought where you learn how to drive the car you have, and take to the limit you are comfortable with, or as far as you are willing to. I am of the belief any car can be taken to the track as long as it meets all the safety requirements of the track and through the pre-track day technical inspection at a shop. I think it's fallacy to think that a production car can't, or rather, shouldn't be taken to the track.

Cars are becoming scrap waaaaaaaaay faster than ever before.

https://www.picknpull.com/check-inve...&zip=V1Z%201G2

I go to the local wrecker for little parts for my 1993 Plymouth Voyager 5 speed minivan, my 1985 LeBaron with full 1989 Turbo Daytona engine, tranny and brake swap, and my 1999 Dodge Stratus purple shitbox...

Sooooooo many newer cars scrapped with no body damage! Yes of course, some have been crashed, but I've seen a bunch with no body damage. They even sold a pristine like 2016 Range Rover with immaculate body for 2k because the engine was blown. God I wanted to put an old school 5.0 Mustang engine in it.

Car companies realized if they are going to stay in business that they have to build cars too complex and expensive to fix, so it is easier and cheaper for the consumer to just buy disposable cars rather than products like my older Chryslers that will keep running forever. So simple. Parts so cheap. I bet we'll still see K Cars like mine driving around in 20+ years... I see more 80's and 90's Chrysler K-based cars driving around than Mercedes, BMWs, or Audi's from the 90's or 00's even.

You basically never see 10+ year old European cars driving around, basically ever.

Kinnda but not really. Most ppl don't want to drive a car with no AC, power windows, airbags, GPS, ABS, TC and have the steering colume imbed itself in your chest when you crash.

All that comes with complexity, but cars are more reliable, safer, and more efficient than ever. Rewind even just 40 years and you'll be hard pressed to find a car that will do 200,000 and not kill you family when you crash. These days the crappiest car can do 200k with just an oil change. They're way more expensive to fix, but that's kinda what happens went the market demands more toys. You can buy stripped-out new cars form Mits and Nissan, look how well those Versas sold...

I don't think there is some cabal of automakers wanting to make shitty cars.

That's the last thing you want to be associated with your brand.

There is a big difference between the vehicle you buy for yourself, and the vehicle used to transport women, children, homosexuals, seniors, and the disabled.

Having said that, I'm sure BMWs, Mercedes, and Audis from the 00's are safe and have most of those features, but nobody can keep them running on any sort of budget so you basically never see them driving.

Nothing is as expensive as a cheap BMW!

I remember last year on Facebook Marketplace seeing sooooo many 2010's Audis for sale for pennies on the dollar from new. Repairs on a European car are so expensive if you don't work on them yourselves that it makes more sense to just trade them in or scrap them than fix'em.

Meanwhile, cars that are known by the masses to be reliable and affordable are now sky-high priced. If you have an Integra and blow the engine, you can get a B20 from a CRV for like $300 from an auto wrecker's. If you have an Audi, Mercedes, or BMW and your engine or tranny blows, say goodbye to 10k+...

You're not considering the rest of the chassis. And the Mazda 2.5T is pretty weak compared to Type R/GRC/Golf R engine.

You can take GTI to track 100% stock and do fine. The brakes are fine (maybe yours has issues?) Corolla AWD limp = push through, Toyota too conservative.

Issue with GR Corolla overheat rear diff is that the temperature is calculated, not a real sensor ... so a cooler won't fix itk.

the brakes on the GTI are monopot! single piston! why would they cheap out on such a thing?

not that i would ever take it to the track, but it seems like they cant handle that sort of duty if pushed. VWVortex all say the first upgrade they do is throw in a proper brake kit and add the rear sway bar from 034 performance.
