Gululu 07-07-2014 10:19 PM

always love to go carp fishing. we are doing Canada a great favour since carp fishes are invasive species. no problem, leave it to us. :ilied:

Wow.....that's another thing I hate about some recreational fishers. So many have no idea about the regulstions for certain areas that it makes me sick. When I inform them if I see then doing something wrong, I always let them know the rules and regulations about the area. You'd be surprised how many people just flip you off or pretend they don't speak English(I'm Asian BTW). That's when I call the rapp line and hopefully someone comes out to do something about it.

The size requirement is 165cm for crab. Females and anything under has to be released. Females don't grow past 165cm so Its pretty obvious Gululu is a poacher.

I fish for invasive species all the time (bass and black crappie) and they all have limits. You may want to look into that next time you're out fishing.

What kinda fish are you interested in fishing? Do you have a rod and reel already?

I used to fly fish with my dad but he passed away and I've never gone since but I'd like to take it up again. To me, it was a lot more fun then just sitting in a rowboat dragging out a line.

underscore 07-08-2014 09:15 AM

I used to fly fish a bit with my dad, I can still do the casting but I'm pretty sure I suck at it because I've never caught anything doing it haha.

Let them post away, so that it may be forwarded on to the appropriate authorities.

I'm not a skilled fisherman. Never been salmon or lake fishing. I just go off the docks in north/west van and areas of Richmond for dogfish and sturgeon. Catch and release, just to waste time really. Been a while too.

chinesespareribs 07-08-2014 12:27 PM

Just wondering is there some sort of fishing areas in the lower mainland that I can take my 5 year daughter to take her fishing.

I know in the States there are some fish farms of some sort that I can pay $5 per fish that she catches.

mk1freak 07-08-2014 12:37 PM

There's a trout farm in mission I'll edit with link in abit

I would go for rice lake with the setup that I mentioned in the first post. The lake is stocked and is relatively easy to fish.

mk1freak 07-08-2014 12:59 PM

spring & autumn is best for rice, if the weather is too hot the fish aren't active. if you do go in the summer, early mornings first light and late evenings are best during the day you may as well leave and go shopping and have lunch and come back.

Haney wharf when salmon are in is a great place to bring the kid while dad is catching salmon, the lil ones can cast off the side and catch whitefish

Spoiler!

As T4 suggested, Rice Lake is one option. There are also several other stocked lakes in the Lower Mainland that would be good options.

As a commercial crabber it disgusts me the amount of people that either "don't know" or don't follow the regulations. If you don't know here are the 4 basic rules YOU MUST follow for crab fishing.

1) You must obtain and carry a valid B.C. Tidal Waters Sport Fishing Licence.
2) Only 2 traps are allowed per licence per person.
3) Females and undersized crab must be released IMMEDIATELY and carefully.
4) A maximum of 4 legal size (keepers) can be kept per licence per person.

http://www.pac.dfo-mpo.gc.ca/publica...ab_english.pdf

I find people disregard number 4 far too often. Anything over 4 crab per licence is considered ILLEGAL.

Also always write your name and a telephone number on your floats and buoys. This will make it easier for us or the authorities to return your lost or tangled equipment.
