I did a quick search on this news item, and the only reference I can find are the Reddit feed and a Twitter account of what is likely a Caucasian reporter describing this news. Until further details and elaborations are given from official channels (ie. the HK Police force in a press conference / on their website), I urge all parties to consider this as an unofficial, unverified, and unconfirmed report that may or may not be related tothe Occupy Central / Umbrella Revolution. Police officers are traditionally among the highest risk group to commit suicide.

Hong Kong police inspector kills himself inside North Point station | South China Morning Post

He shot himself in the head twice, and left a note. They aren't saying what the note had on it but it definitely "has nothing to do with the protests"

Local politician shows up to the flag raising ceremony with a yellow umbrella

GLOW 09-30-2014 07:50 PM

does the yellow umbrella signify something significant? or is it just the fact he's sporting a yellow umbrella with zero fucks given?

twitchyzero 09-30-2014 07:51 PM

Yellow is the colour use by the movement (if you want to show support tomorrow, you should wear yellow), and umbrella is the symbol and the name/hashtag (#UmbrellaRevolution)

Umbrella became the symbol as they have were first used to block pepper spray, then to block the sun, then to block thunderstorms last night

It slows down during the day, as people go to home to sleep (and during the week many have to go to work).

It picks up each afternoon with 10's of thousands of people spread throughout 3 main protest sites (Admiralty, Causeway Bay, Mong Kok). A smaller one is forming at TST as well.

Things that could only happen in a Hong Kong protest

Even if your trip was today, you would be fine.

IMO, the protestors are not going to win.

Peacefully protesting for their rights is something that should be admired versus staying silent and taking it up the ass. As someone who lives in a country with guaranteed freedom, would you just sit there when the government decides to take away your freedom?

This is the issue with kids born into a free society who take it for granted.

Traum 10-01-2014 12:29 AM

The full and complete version of an earlier incident has been made available. IMO, this video really needs to go viral so that Hong Kong would have a chance to identify this piece of human trash and have him prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.
