Winter tire discussion for grown ups with occasional immature potshots thread

Got into an argument with a coworker who swears his Tesla's low-resistance tires are fine for the winter - literally his entire argument was "Teslas are great at everything".

THESE are the assholes you have to watch for on the road.

I got to properly test out the Michelin X Ice Snows today and they behaved exactly as I expected them to. I had to really try to get them to break traction at all, as far as I was concerned the road was merely a different colour. They were drama free on the bit of heavy rain and forestry road driving I did in the fall as well. Obviously I can't report on wear yet, but so far if you want to be able to just run a small SUV on a single set of tires year round I highly recommend them.

its the dumbasses with bald or summer tires u should be whining to.
Why buy them at all then?

Slap them fancy Michelins on and enjoy superior stopping ability in lower temps.
This is why the majority of the vehicles in the ditch on the way to the ski hill are AWD/4WD with janky all seasons on. Also why I run good winters, so I can dodge the people losing control without worrying about losing it myself.

I can say the PA4s today were good in the wet. Haha. I skipped all the snow driving and let the nutty ones get used to the extra slip and slide so they’re a bit more mindful on the next snow dumps.

Seems like Michelin PA4s do deliver on their performance of feeling very much unlike what I’ve been so used to with Blizzak LM and Dunlop 3D performance winter models. Sidewall feels firm enough and closer to an ultra performance A/S tire. Ride is comfy and quiet.

These tires seem like can handle putting around 600 ft-lbs of torque down decently in the wet right from 0kmh with some short shifting ½ way through the rev range. Then traction control may randomly engage because of the HP at the high end of the rev range trying to break lose the rear.

Placing the tires on patches of heavy/wet snow while moderately throttling feels like they have adequate and controlled longitudinal grip but I’ll have to wait on next snow fall to feel what they can laterally grip which I’m assuming will be decent.

Apparently with just a JB1 tune I can make the VikingContact7's chirp from a stop in the wet. Granted I went from 225 stock treadwidth to 205, but it's amusing that it's possible.

I posted that weather report pic a couple pages back. I knew temps were finally dropping below 7°C and snow was coming soon so I put my winters on over the weekend. I'm glad I held off right until I really needed to. I always put my winters on based on temps, not by the calendar date.

Not going to lie, I was kind of happy when I saw the snow this morning. Feels kind of good when I know I nailed the timing right.

He can be chill and blow up whenever he want. Just like he's allowed to list and delist whenever, not our concern

I bought this size at 1010 Tire aka Volco in Coquitlam. Went with the Conti Viking7 tires as they had them in stock and a decent price - no one could get them locally in Squamish for over a month.

Do those tire manufacturer rebates usually run year round or do they actually come and go depending on the season?

I'm not sure if these rebates are trying to make me act fast or if I can just wait it out until I'm actually ready to buy?

Also once in a while, Canadian Tire has deep discounts on top tier brand winter tires like Michelin and Continental

EDIT: Last year I was able to pick up a set of Michelin Snow's 215/55/17 for $700 taxes in
