Billions of dollars invested into PHEV and EV development
It'd be a shame if shitty 12V batteries ruined it... oh wait.
Only Tesla, BMW, BYD, Porsche have figured out that PH/EV need lithium low voltage batteries to survive.

Well, it's complicated.
1) Hybrid? stick with 0w-8/16 because they have additives specifically for low RPM, cold, highload that these engines see a lot of.
Although it's an expensive oil with expensive additives, don't skip the oil changes.
Don't run 0w-16 and 0w-20 either because they rely on additives to be acceptable at low temps. https://www.scribd.com/document/6683...oad&from_embed
2) Gas? Should probably stick with 0w-20.
Although Toyota's machining/oil pump control makes 0w-8/16 acceptable, the overall protection is still lower. https://www.lube-media.com/wp-conten...rs-dilemma.pdf
3) Toyota and Mercedes' manufacturing engineers need huge raises for improving their cranks and cylinder linings to avoid boundary friction with these oils. GM and Hyundai/Kia blew up lots of engines!

^utter horseshit reasoning by Toyota to switch to such a thin and specialized oil. Complete money grab akin to VW forcing me to buy their “certified” oil or else void the warranty.
My dad’s RX 400H used 5w30. Same shit as my v8 ! Same shit as the ES / Camry.
Those taxi dudes running Prius Vs and older Priuses are all using 0w20. Same with my wife’s modern RX. Whatever. 0w20 is the same price as 5w30. These taxis have over a million KMs on them.
Fuck you modern day Toyota. You’re dead to me. First you killed off my beloved v6 and v8s and now you’re copying the nazis and making specialized oil ?!?!? What is this the axis powers from WW2 uniting again ?

currently own a 2018 Honda odyssey touring
pros:
-v6 engine is smooth, powerful and quiet
-magic second row seats (very good because i have 2 kids with car seats) normally i would situate them on the most outer position for easy entry and exit access. If someone needs to get access to the third row, I would slide one of them to the middle position and whoever needs to go into 3rd row and just walk in.
cons
-gas guzzler in city (ranging anywhere between 15 to 19L /100km

What is this the axis powers from WW2 uniting again ? | These new motors are different breed - Toyota even bought Mazda for their Skyactiv efficiency tricks.
Are we really comparing to 10-20+ year old engines that had their own issues?
- 2GR, V8 and T24A were never designed for 0w-8/16. They run 0W-20 like they should for a hotter running ICE.
- 1st gen RX400h and Camry Hybrid have worse fuel economy than standard gas version today.
Hybrid Camry now 50% more efficient than 2007, 16% more power and AWD.
RX500h more efficient and 40% more power than RX400h.

Efficiency be damned, all this lame talk and that Corolla hybrid only gets 5.8L for 100km in the city. I’ve seen quite a few uber corollas and that’s the average these toys are getting.
Now you compare it to the Prius V of 20 years ago that’s getting roughly the same and you tell me where the fuck all this “efficiency” went with their specialized oils.
Friggin money grab.
Likewise my dad’s rx400h gets around 9L/100km in the city and it’s almost 20 years old. Original hybrid battery and everything. How much does the new 500h or 350h get ? Roughly the fucking same… without the expensive Dino juice. All new cars suck.

Yep, 4th gen Prius and Corolla are terrible aren’t they?
I get 6-8L/100km cuz you gotta floor it… 0-60 in 12s.
But those are also pre-dynamic force and updated oils
5th gen Prius and Camry get 4.1L ripping it.
Toyota gave us some combo of 50% more MPG and/or 80% more power on the 5th gen.
All they ask is we need a bit of special oil - What more do u want?

what the hell you talking about mop head!?
THe old prius from 2012 (0w20 oil) https://media.toyota.ca/en/whats-new...sions%20rating.
Gets
Delivers remarkable combined fuel efficiency at just 4.6L/100km (4.3L/100km city, 4.8L/100km highway) – the best of any SUV, crossover, or wagon on the market.
The new prius while being marginally faster (who cares, its still a slow piece of shit and its WAYYY smaller inside, go ask any cabby and they hate the new prius) https://www.toyota.ca/en/vehicles/prius/overview/
GETS ALSO 4.7/4.8L per 100km. WHILE USING BITCH ASS 0W8 oil
FUCK THIS OIL. FUCK TOYOTA. Innovation my ass.
I looked up the price of 0w8 oil. Basically the cheapeset no name brand is still $22-25 dollars a qt. Vs 0w20 oil at $6.75 a qt if you buy kirkland 0w20.
So what fucking innovation did they make? besides bricking dark's stupid prius with a shitty 12v that wont charge?

So at this point I give up. Just recently threw on A/Ts. Guess what, still 12L/100km.

Who cares about power right? Well even if I’m not driving one, I have not been stuck behind a new Prius/camry in the left lane.
Consider LA, Michigan, NJ, Texas, Toronto … they all cruise at 130kmh+. Cali market alone sells more cars than all of Canada.
Last thing: you said 4th gen system gets 6 real world. I got 7-8 with heat.
New Camry I got 4.2 AND it’s way cheaper than before with a huge back seat

"80% increase in power" yields 0-60 in 7 seconds. in what world is 7 seconds impressive!?!??! im pretty sure the old 2GR FKS AWD sienna also does it in sub 7 seconds. https://www.caranddriver.com/reviews...d-test-review/
Whatever, im not impressed. Thin oil, shitty and lacklustre engines, high prices (a corolla hybrid is almost 40k for a LE base model with cloth seats), and failing reliability. Toyota has fallen far from the days of 1uzfe's 3uzfe's 2UR's 2gr's and of course, 2jz's.

What good is the 2GR reliability and power if every transmission it's attached to refuses to downshift and hella hunts gears?
The hybrid's far more responsive at mid throttle, consistent, and 100% more fuel efficient.

Come drive my ES. It never hunts gears. My wife’s RX does that a bit in eco mode but in sport mode it’s fine.

I wonder if you could MT swap a Toyota / Lexus with that.

The RX has the 8 speed box? FWD:
ES has the 5/6 or 8 speed?
The 5 speed in Avalon and 6 speed drive pretty good except for not giving any real engine braking.
The Camry 8 speed was DIABOLICAL.
- Super harsh shifts when cold in the AM (later recalled for this)
- Terrible gearing because 1 > 2 upshift at redline drops you into 2600rpm.
- highway passing, 80%ish throttle: it would go to like 5th first, then go "oh fuck we need 3rd". Then it couldn't chose between 3/4/5 going up a hill at highway speeds. RWD:
- IS350 F Sport RWD with the rare 8AT: nice upshifts but holy shit the downshifts. Great driving feel oteherwise.
AWD IS had the terrible 6AT from 2006: 2nd gear is over 60mph, it shifts in business days AND it intrudes into the passenger side.
Ironically, the 15/19 Camry and 21 IS were all that same burgundy red metallic.

My 2010 es has the old 6 speed. Perfectly smooth. Yeah the RX is the terrible 8 speed. Not sure how they ducked this thing up and then threw it in all their cars… what a joke.
You’re right. Lexus peaked probably with the LC. Everything nowadays is just worse and worse. I like their new concept styling but I figure they’ll throw something gay in it like a 4 banger or an EV.

Only Toyota fucked it up 8 speed.
BMW uses the same box in X1 and it's sportier and smoother.
Volvo also uses it in XC60 where it's inoffensive and smooth.

Give it a few years when they throw in a turbocharged parallel twin with 500hp and CVT transmission

The messed up one is the FWD/transverse one (UA80?)
The RWD one the Cayenne uses is fine - mostly shifts ok even if it's not as good as the ZF.
