Vancouver, B.C. - Vancouver Canucks General Manager Jim Benning announced today that the Canucks have extended qualifying offers to five players:

Baertschi, Sven
Clendening, Adam
Corrado, Frank
Grenier, Alexandre
Markstrom, Jacob

The following players did not receive qualifying offers:

Andersson, Peter
Conacher, Cory
Eriksson, Joacim
McMillan, Brandon
Stanton, Ryan
Weber, Yannick
Zalewski, Michael

I thought we gave up a draft pick for Conacher but apparently it was just Dustin Jeffery.

I'd qualify Weber. He's a perfectly decent safety net in case everyone gets injured again. I'd rather have him than Stanton. Hell, I thought they would re-sign him ahead of Sbisa...

Correct.

Playnow has a bet for Canucks signing FAs on July 1st.

Less than 3.5 is paying out at 1.28.

Those are pretty good odds.

They are still trying to sign weber but don't get why they didn't give him a QO! Now he can sign with any other team he wants...also I hope the only thin JB does this free agent day is try to get franson need someone to play on the point!

I don't see why Franson would sign here other than he's from BC. Canucks aren't even contenders.

2years for Markstrom... so the canucks are telling me that if Markstrom doesn't pan out.. and Demko isn't ready..the team will be lookin for a goaltender...

or maybe markstrom didnt want a long contract incase lets say he signs at 2mx4 years and after 2 years he plays amazing and wants more ? iuno im just thinking out loud lol :whistle:

Several sources told ESPN.com the Kings were made aware of the situation Friday, approximately an hour after the first round of the 2015 NHL draft had begun.

The Kings announced they put Richards on unconditional waivers Sunday. He cleared, and a regular buyout was expected. At the time it seemed like LA was acknowledging a mistake from the prior summer by not using a compliance buyout on Richards, who hadn’t notched more than 44 points in a season with the Kings since his trade to LA in 2011.

Then the team announced the termination of the deal.

According to ESPN, the Kings had to pull the plug on any potential trades with Edmonton or Calgary at the draft Friday night. Both teams were reportedly vying for Richards’ services.

"He came right over to me," Oilers general manager Peter Chiarelli confirmed to ESPN.com. "He pulled me aside and said, 'Hey, Pete, this is going to come out. I had no idea. This is important you know so that talks [don't go any] further.'"

It’s still unclear how Richards will proceed moving forward. We still don’t have all the specifics on why the Kings made this decision, which actually saves them a large portion of Richards’ salary cap hit for the remainder of his deal – though there will be a cap recapture penalty.

The NHLPA released a statement saying it will consult with Richards, who probably was not a fan of seeing his 12-year $69 million contract ended with five years remaining.

not the greatest reporting, it doesn't say what he did. It just said something happened at a border crossing and he got caught...

The story will come out soon enough methinks. Too many people know; particularly media. Just a matter of time, perhaps once any legal proceedings take place.
