lol we do
barring some sort of miracle or divine intervention, we're gonna get absolutely rekt next season

and i'm ok with that.

cdizzle_996 06-30-2015 02:25 PM

One of my all time favourite Canucks, sad to see him go.

However from a business stand point it only made sense

Mike Oxbig 06-30-2015 02:27 PM

2011 core to the ducks pls

xeryusx 06-30-2015 02:27 PM

Considering Juice is aging/1 year left vs Ducks still a cup contending team....

Unless they just absolutely crash next season.... I'm a little iffy about this deal. Granted, this is probably the best deal they could've gotten.

xeryusx 06-30-2015 02:29 PM

Omfg I read it wrong. It's a 2nd round?!

According to Twitter, the Ducks will announce a contract extension tomorrow.

xeryusx 06-30-2015 02:34 PM

Oooof now I really don't like it

pastarocket 06-30-2015 02:36 PM

Wow! Kesler must be happy to see his buddy joining him. Two Canucks becoming Ducks.

Teriyaki 06-30-2015 02:38 PM

Would kind of like Ducks to win the cup next year. 2 ex Vancouver players that played with heart throughout the years. Thanks Bieksa for the good times.

Hondaracer 06-30-2015 02:40 PM

Another Benning mis-step?

Squashes the deal with SJ because the 2nd round pick was in 2016, now he takes the trade with ANA for the 2nd round pick in 2016 which is going to be SUBSTANTIALLY worse than SJ's pick..

:rukidding:

pastarocket 06-30-2015 02:43 PM

-wonder which free agent JB is going to sign now that the team has more cap room available. :suspicious:

Is Benning even finished with trades?

Unless I'm missing something, if ANA finishes higher (thus chooses later) than SJS as we suspect, ANA's second round pick should be early in the second compared to SJ no?

TjAlmeida 06-30-2015 02:44 PM

I thought the whole ordeal was SJ backed out on the deal. Not Benning. I like the move, now please dump say a Higgins.

pastarocket 06-30-2015 02:47 PM

Yeah, this is the best deal that Benning could get for Bieksa if the Sharks GM backed out of the draft day deal for a 2nd round pick for this year's draft.

There's no way a good NHL GM would give up a first round pick for a D-man on the decline like Bieksa. A GM would have to be on crack to trade a first round draft pick for him.

68style 06-30-2015 02:52 PM

Haha, man, I know it's all because of no-trade clauses and that ish... but at the end of the day, Anaheim has Kesler and Bieksa from us... and we have Bonino and Sbisa from them.

Why are the Canucks always such losers? Love them to death... but man... that's just bad.

TjAlmeida 06-30-2015 02:52 PM

Curious, some of you saying another miss by Benning. How fucking high do you rank some of our aging core players. Lacks value was over rated, his return may have been on the low side but not to the point of put Benning to the stake and burn. And a second rounder, even from a contending team is good for bieksa. Coming off an injury season, aging, and one year left I'm happy to part ways. Best of luck to Kesler and bieksa, I don't like Anaheim but hope they pull through for the ex-canucks

Nope, this ain't no hockey pool with your friends with reverse order each round lol... San Jose will finish way worse than Anaheim... so they have a much earlier pick as a result. Anaheim's picks will be super late in every round.

It's a huge mis-step IF Benning walked away (as reported) from the San Jose trade because it was a 2nd rounder next year... which is exactly what he ended up doing in the end... but for a much later pick with Anaheim.

I'm gonna say upfront that I know next to nothing about GM trades and all the stuff that goes on behind the doors. That said, with all the praise that came to Benning when he took over as GM, he seems to be fucking up left and right. I guess despite the great scouting background, it's still not enough experience in the GM position.

They were kicking this around yesterday at 1040:

Asset management.

Yes, Lack is *probably* just worth the 3rd but (I can't remember who made this point) if Benning had any negotiating skills, he should've pumped Eddie's tires throughout the year. It was clear that the fan base loved him, he wasn't too bad at his position especially near the end of the season there when he took over after Miller's injury. He could've shown that he's got full confidence in Eddie in net. I know they said that multiple times throughout the year but there are other ways to actually demonstrate that.

Now, with this Bieksa trade... Hondaracer nailed it on the head. Again, I'm sure there were other factors as to why the sharks trade fell through but..... Goddamn.

Miller signing = shit
McMillan plugged into the line up = shit
Lack for 3rd = I guess so :/
Bieksa for ANA 2nd instead of SJ 2nd = definitely shit IMO

Despite all of this, it's still his first year in the big chair.
Bring on the dark times..

I honestly thought it was snake. Thanks for clarifying.

Exactly..SJ could easily be in the bottom third of the league next season, where as Anaheim has improved over their president cup team..

The difference between 10-15 and 20-30 is massive in the first round.

Sentinel 06-30-2015 03:02 PM

Given how Benning likes to use our 2nd rd picks... He will probably trade it away for an upcoming prospect from another team.

Ronin 06-30-2015 03:03 PM

My favorite Canuck...but it was time.

Tegra_Devil 06-30-2015 03:05 PM

There was also a report that they had come to an agreement on 2nd round and last minute SJGM said nvm one for this year and the other 2nd for next (where they had already somewhat agreed to 2 for 2015) so Benning didn't wanna get pushed over and accept that
