LOL.. I love being a Canucks fan.

Bouncing Bettys 02-29-2016 05:47 PM

Benning = JFJ? Decent scout becomes the GM of a team, knows he needs to rebuild but ownership won't allow it. His moves looked bad until it came out that ownership wouldn't let him do his job.

JesseBlue 02-29-2016 05:56 PM

The highlight of my day was reading all the comments

trancehead 02-29-2016 06:05 PM

Benning is 52. Should be old enough to know how to play power politics if Aquilinis were indeed blocking him. god fucking damit. demoralizing day for Vancouver.

AzNightmare 02-29-2016 06:10 PM

Any source that Aquilini veto trades?
If so, seriously need to boycott and never buy tickets/go to games again.

pastarocket 02-29-2016 06:13 PM

As a long suffering Canucks fan, today's trade deadline is like a kick in the groin.
-so much pain. :heckno:

I also caught a nasty flu today thanks to some jerk at work who does not take sick leave.

The only consolation is that I cannot go watch the Islanders game with a buddy.
-spared from the shit show tomorrow. :troll:

That's actually an excellent comparison.

PiuYi 02-29-2016 07:03 PM

John Ferguson Jr. - ex GM of Leafs. He was basically a puppet.

Jason Botchford: "Owners wanted the Stars to pay a premium"

Say what you want about him but he's one of the most well connected guys with the Canucks

Nabatron 02-29-2016 07:31 PM

Aqualinis are so against the galardi group they purposely would throw their GM under the bus during trade deadline? If this is true aqualinis are a fucking joke and terrible business people! I mean by doing this they are pissing ie us Canucks fans and screwing their own team! This is just a trickle down effect to us fans who buy tickets and murchandise! I for one am boycotting this shit till they give their heads a shake!

willystyle 02-29-2016 07:34 PM

Petty if true.

XplicitLuder 02-29-2016 07:45 PM

half of us will boycott, and another half somewhere down the line will buy the pair of tickets for 30$ and we will never get new ownership :troll:

No surprises, they threw MG under the bus by pinning the torterella hire on him, then turning around and threatening legal action against media outlets that report this was an ownership hire and calling the hire an incompetent move.

By all accounts they are excellent if not ruthless business ppl. But when sport/winning/ego become involved with a play toy that is a professional sports team, it leads to rather illogical decisions ie. Not letting the ppl you have hired to do the job you are paying them to do.

I can't see Linden's legacy but being affected negatively the way things are going, which is rather unfortunate. He's a smooth talker, but you can only talk yourself out of so much bs.

Tim Budong 02-29-2016 09:00 PM

Linden's legacy is already in the shitter with the past two years
He did do a few things right, the food options inside arena is one, those townhall meetings to simply connect with the fans that adore him is another

but somewhere along the lines, thats only to please a sentimental part of the fans. Results matter, performance matters. This is a business after all.

Ownership, Management, and the staff(team) didnt get the job done.

I read on reddit that the city needs to do a boycott similar to what Liverpool fans did by staging a walkout in game... that probably won't happen here, but we can all turn to yelp reviews right?!?!?!?!?!?!....

dbaz 02-29-2016 09:01 PM

id rather aquilini got the message first rather than the rest of management, seems hes the biggest problem.

aquilini sucks chant?

as great as that sounds, that's never gonna happen
this city just doesn't have that kind of backbone

that'd be great to see though...can u imagine, midway through the 2nd period and everyone just walks out and its an empty arena the rest of the game?
It'll kinda be like a Coyotes game when they're losing...except the fans there aren't actually making a statement

Amuse 02-29-2016 09:49 PM

Ray Ferraro quote from TSN Trade Center
"I have no idea what Vancouver is doing. There is no consistent or coherent thought process to guide most of their moves"

"They’re an aging team with a collection of depreciating assets that they should move. I just don't understand what this team is doing at the moment"

cow20xx 02-29-2016 10:50 PM

This is fucking gold. Thanks guys. Best things i've read all day regarding canucks hockey at the trade deadline.

6o4__boi 03-01-2016 11:01 AM

StubHub!

Cheapest tickets tonight are $12
:lawl:

I hope its as empty as the Glendale arena during a losing streak when the Suns are playing

murd0c 03-01-2016 11:03 AM

wow, I've never seen them that cheap before

Nabatron 03-01-2016 11:23 AM

That's awesome how cheap tickets are haha translates to the product on the ice.....cheap!

Nabatron 03-01-2016 11:25 AM

Also bo is playing on a line with vey and etem lol what a joke of a coach! Aqualinis influencing lines now too?

Bouncing Bettys 03-01-2016 11:26 AM

Expect a price hike for next season.

That walkout was over ticket prices (which succeeded in lowering them for next year), but then again the same idea could be applied here with how much management is alienating fans. I don't know if the team wants to tank for a higher draft pick, or head into the playoffs and end up getting swept in the first round and taking a middling spot in the draft.

Doesn't help that it's a fucking library in the arena after Whitecaps supporters got kicked out for trying to run chants because someone complained. Hell in Europe they have standing sections for stuff like that. But no, Rogers Arena is overpriced shit and suits on BBM for most of the game in the lower bowl. There's no chance a protest can be staged when there isn't a coherent supporter's group in the city.
