It would be interesting to see who we draft if our pick falls out of the top 3.

Dubois or Nylander

I'm really not sold on Tkachuk and his numbers being inflated by Dvorak and Marner

so what are everyone's predictions

QMJHL stats are inflated as hell with the high scoring and its probably the worst league in the CHL drafting wise.

Canucks gonna have bad luck always missing out on the good things

missed the big 5 last draft picking 6th (virtanen) and theyre gonna miss the big 3 this draft pick 4th with chychrun

The Leafs spend big money on contracts for Rielly and Kadri.

Hey Bouncing Bettys, does this news put a spring in your step? :troll:

Maple Leafs lock up Rielly, Kadri to six-year deals

The Toronto Maple Leafs signed defenceman Morgan Rielly and forward Nazem Kadri to long-term deals on Wednesday.

Rielly signed a six-year, $5 million contract and Kadri inked a six-year, $4.5 million deal with the club.

Rielly led all Maple Leafs defencemen with a career-high 36 points while skating in all 82 games this year. Since entering the league in 2013-14, the 22-year-old has 19 goals and 73 assists in 236 regular season games.

Rielly was named to Team Canada’s roster for the 2016 IIHF World Championship earlier this week.

Kadri led the Maple Leafs with 17 goals and 28 assists in 76 games this season. In parts of seven NHL seasons, the 25-year-old has registered 81 goals and 116 assists and 207 penalty minutes in 326 regular season games.

The London, Ontario native was originally selected by the Maple Leafs with the seventh overall pick in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft

Virtanen at 6 is still pretty good so far.

Dal colle hasn't done anything yet but virtanen is at least in the NHL.

Larkin should've went higher that year

Being in the NHL before another player doesn't mean anything lol.

eg. people were calling Horvat a bust because Nichuskin was in the NHL before him. Compare them now :lol

Dal Colle will probably (most likely) outscore Virtanen when he reaches the NHL :lol

Mike Oxbig 04-13-2016 10:17 AM

Virtanen compares to Torres
Chychrun compares to Erik Johnson (but he a #1 overall doe)

Canucks sign defenceman Troy Stecher - Vancouver Canucks - News

Quote:

Vancouver, B.C. –Vancouver Canucks General Manager Jim Benning announced today that the club has signed defenceman Troy Stecher.

Stecher, 22, recently completed his junior season with the University of North Dakota, leading the Fighting Hawks to their eighth NCAA Championship while being named to the All-Tournament Team. A Second Team West All-American, Stecher led the Fighting Hawks defencemen in goals (8), assists (21), and points (29) this season. His career-high 29 points also ranked him sixth in scoring among NCAA blueliners. The 5-11, 191-pound defenceman has appeared in 119 NCAA games over three seasons for the University of North Dakota where he has collected 53 points (13-40-53).

Prior to his collegiate career, the Richmond, British Columbia native spent three seasons with the Penticton Vees of the BCHL. He helped the Vees capture the RBC National Junior A Championship in 2012, where he was named the Top Defenceman.

Wow, 45 points and the Leafs want to lock up Kadri long term?

If JB can land Drake, I'll forgive him for the trade deadline this year

murd0c 04-13-2016 03:28 PM

are the Canucks even going after him? I think he would be a great call since he's on a line with Brock but I haven't heard anything saying the Canucks are interested in him.

I didn't follow the Leafs much this year ... Mainly because they took all the fun out of watching them lose with their blatant offseason tank strategy ... And the Canucks were just as bad ...

And maybe Bouncing Bettys can correct me if I'm wrong ...

AFAIK, Babcock used Kadri as their shutdown guy this season and, while 45 points isn't stellar, it is respectable. He also had a very low shooting %, indicating some bad puck luck, too.

That said, I'd have 2 issues with this if I were a Leafs fan.
- He's become a rat. He dives, he takes cheap shots, and I can't stand his attitude.
- With Nylander, Marner, and possibly Matthews in the system, Kadri could very well find himself as an expensive bottom 6 centre very soon.

I agree with everything! At 4.5 mill for 6 years it makes him fairly affordable if it comes to moving him, I like the signing personally. He plays with an edge and does embellish now and then but still has respectable production.

Dal Colle won a Memorial Cup last season, put up 80+ points for the 3rd straight season, and scored 18 points in 9 playoff games this season.

He's had an excellent OHL career.

You usually won't know what you've really got until 3-7 years after the draft.

Alex Pietrangelo, for example, played 2 more seasons in the OHL after his draft and many people were questioning if he was worthy of his draft position.

Meanwhile, Zach Bogosian and Luke Schenn stepped immediately into the NHL. While Pietrangelo was in the OHL, many people considered Bogosian and Schenn to be better than him. Obviously, Pietrangelo has turned out far better than both. Some would argue that Bogosian and Schenn were both hurt from being rushed into the NHL.

anyone else think signing Troy Stecher was also a bait to lure Boeser to sign with us the following season? since they're tight

Boeser will sign with the Canucks. He already said on the Team 1040 yesterday that he's not going to do the whole 4 year college thing. I think this is a case of him winning the cup in his freshman year and going back to see if he can do a repeat while developing as a better player.

If anything, this should entice Drake Caggiula to sign with Vancouver since Stecher is signed and Boeser should be signed by next season.

pastarocket 04-13-2016 07:32 PM

The Pens lit up the Rangers tonight. :lawl:

Hornqvist's hat trick helps me in a playoff pool. :awwyeah:
