Finally got my Surf Internet account and service setup. Took about a week to get everything setup, but I did have to setup an installation time that worked for me. Might have taken less time if I was free all week.

So far I've streamed HD netflix/youtube, uploaded about 50gb worth of files to my backup cloud service, xbox live games and haven't experienced an issue yet. I've consistently had a 35mbps download and 5mbps upload at different times of the day
Happy so far with the service

Not completely what you're looking for, but this tidbit of news is kinda cool.

If you're using Telus/Novus or nothing at all at the moment I can currently set up great plans for internet with Shaw

Does anybody here use more than 50/60mbps?

For existing Shaw customer. Do you need to book appointment for them to come in to install anything? Or can they just uncap your speed on their end?

^ generally speaking they do not need to send anyone if u already have shaw internet. it all depends on what kind of internet modem you have. if u r on a newer cisco or hitron modem, then they just make some changes to your account and u get the speed instantly. if ur on an older style modem then u may need to drop by a retail store to pick up a new modem. then again if ur on the old cisco DPC-3825 modem in bridged mode (meaning the router/wifi is disabled and ur running it as a pure modem) i suggest keeping that as its capable on 150Mbps and it is the most reliable modem there is available (that is if ur using it as a pure internet modem only and does not need its wifi and router functions)

Hey Guys, Shaw has an Internet 150 deal that is $50/m for the first year and $80/m for the second year (for new customers). For existing customers, it will be $80/m for both years. Call me or text me if you need some help! 604-561-9301

And I always have unadvertised promotions for new customers. So if anybody is interested or just want a quote, holler!!

Is anyone using Surf or CIK? I know they both use Shaw lines, guys on the CIK thread on RFD was complaining that it was slow during peak hours while guys on the Surf thread said they didn't experience any problems. If anyone here is using it, what are your comments about Surf or CIK?

Just curious, what do you guys usually use the 150mbps plans for? Home severs/gaming/streaming/lots of users at home?

I used to work for Shaw and had 60 or something and that was already lightning quick for me.

For people who have switched from Shaw to telus video versa, how does it work? Do you cancel current provider before setting up for new one?

Will telus use the same cable line as Shaw? Or will they pull a new line?

Usually the other company will do the cancelling for you.

i.e. You sign up for new Telus promo but you're currently on Shaw. Telus will call Shaw on your behalf and cancel all the services that you want switched over to Telus.

Just got off the phone from telus because i wanted to see if they could give me cheaper rates. I just asked them politely if they can lower my rate.

Old plan (had student promo 50% off internet)
Internet 50 - $51.50
Telephone - 25.09
TV - $48
total: 139.54 after tax

New plan (promotion for 1 year)
Internet 150 - $53
Telephone - $10
TV - 48$
Total : $124.32 after tax

Same here. I think is the limitation from the powerline . Before when I had the 50Maps I can max out with powerline. Now I'm also getting 80ish
