Lol your words not mine on bust and career backup.

He hasn't shown that he's significantly better than Miller which I thought he'd make steps towards this year. That and high glove side seems to be his McSofty spot since last year.

PS demko won't be ready next season, so reupping Miller for 1 year to break demko in won't work. And I'm not sold on Markstrom being hands down starter next season either. Hopefully he'll get a 50/50 workload with Miller this season and see how he handles that

The way I see it Miller and Markstrom for next year, Markstrom and demko for the next 2ish years after and maybe in 4 years demko will be ready to start. With goalies its too hard to project. See how Matt Murray is still being held back/broken in this season despite the run he had last playoffs.

Personally I'm more surprised with how Miller's been able to remain so steady, I'd thought that he would drop off and sharply but so far holding strong save for his health.

All goalies will have a 'soft spot'. Markstrom's issue before working with Rollie was too much arm flailing, which would cover high glove well but shots would get through various gaps by his body. He's tighter overall now, but it opens up other areas of the net--theres no way around this with a 4x6 net. At least it forces shooters to pick the perfect spot.

Now that you mention it, for a 36 year old goalie, Miller is holding up pretty well. Something about Markstrom just doesn't have me convinced he's a starting goalie yet. I can't think of any specifics off the top of my head but there have been some moments this year where i've muttered holy shit Markstrom sucks.

Assuming Miller will still want to be part of this shit show next year lol. If he ends the season well enough on a crappy team, I'm sure there will be better teams calling.

Markstrom as the sole starter with Demko years away...

Compare Markstrom today to when he first joined the team and played that long stretch of games in garbage time. It's night and day. Like UFO said his faults had to do with "overactivity" in his upper body so pucks went through him.

That said, he's still young and still has room to improve. All young goalies go through it. Remember when people in Montreal were pissed that Price was kept over Halak? A few years later and Carey is essentially Jesus reincarnate in goalie gear. Holtby went through the same growing pains. Schneider in 2010-2012. They all do. Those 3 I mentioned are arguably the top 3 goalies in the league now.

Given his size and "athleticism" (I'm not a fan of using that as they're all athletes) you can see why the Canucks are spending so much time and effort on him. He isn't great this year, but the team in front of him is a dumpster fire so that can't help. I think having Miller around him is going to do wonders (remember how many people wanted Miller out last year?). Markstrom can see how someone at Miller's age is still able to be a consummate professional and prepare for each game like his career depends on it.

Lol i was one of those people.
But Miller is starting to turn out to be one of Jimbo's best signings after all.

Yup. For a guy who scored his first goal of the season, he made Edler and Chaput look stupid. For a sec, he looked like a 30 goal scorer on that toe drag.

Also, I think it is quite obvious that the twins are no longer the players that they once were but WD will continue to ride them. Just goes to show you how much he was out coached that game.

This past weekend's SNL skit with Alec Baldwin playing Trump is much like WD or JB.

Doesn't claim Pulkkinen or Seth Griffith

Puts Megna and Chaput in the top 6.
Pure fucking genius.

27 year old John Chayka already a better hockey mind than Benning and Willie combined.

???? He started every single game except 1 as soon as he was available from his hand injury and before he got hit in the head? Fleury has been absolutely awful.

Fair enough, I didn't know of his injury. Just looked through stats and games played quickly

Having said that, I'd be surprised if the Penguins plan was for Murray to start even 60 games this season even if he did win you a Stanley Cup. Murray's stats so far show well, but we'll see how he does with the grind of the schedule. And we all know how well MAF does

Labate.. should of been Grenier. Been hoping for awhile that we will give Valk a contract.. has produced everywhere hes been. Usually starts off slow then adjusts, seems to have good hockey iq, and would prob be a better call up then others we have

Didn't Pulkinnen go on waivers twice?

Detroit passed on him when they could've gotten him back. Shows how much of a player he is IMO..

McCann sent down to AHL today.

Team Las Vegas is announcing the team name and showing the logo at 5:30pm today.

First a team, now an identity for Las Vegas? NHL expansion entry | Las Vegas Review-Journal

Bettman should dress up as a little joker to cheer on the team.
