A co-worker and I were talking this morning about the Blue Jackets' play this season. A huge surprise for many people that this team is on a 15 game win streak.
What kind of magic has Torts been using to get this team to play so well? 
He's not kicking garbage cans and using F-bombs at his players anymore?
A new approach to coaching? 
Co-worker wants to drop Bergeron from his team. I advised him to take the decent players available from CBJ such as Cam Atkinson, Saad, or the Swedish centre Wennberg.

This thread gives me diarrhea sometimes. Much thanks to MG1 for making my morning in another thread though. 
On top of Detroit benching their starter, there were a couple of other stories from that game.
Jared Coreau got the call, as Mrazek's play hasn't been that good lately. Just like Luongo was benched while Lack got the call to play in the Vancouver heritage classis a couple of years ago.
Howard blew out his MCL a week before the game, so Coreau didn't have a lot of time to prepare for this. He tried to get custom gear from Vaughn for his start. But Vaughn closed for the holidays, so he had to use his regular set of gear. That was big news in the goaltending world of nerds.
Coreau basically shit the bed in the 3rd allowing 4 goals in 13 minutes. Up 4-1, Babcock decided to put in the young guys who play exciting hockey, but they're inexperienced. That's when the Red Wings battled back for the tie which led to the OT loss.
Should they have played Coreau?
I don't think so. Mrazek is the senior tender, and I'm sure would have pulled together a good game. But like Torts in Vancouver did, he ran with the rookie and imho disrespected his senior goalie in a way that it will be very hard to come back from. Quote:

A new approach to coaching? | From what I'm gathering, Torts coaching style hasn't changed. What has changed is that he wants to be in Columbus. Torts is a true American nationalist. He couldn't care less about Canadian teams which was shown in Vancouver. He was here for the paycheck only. He didn't spend any time with the team. In fact, the prick lived in Point Roberts because he didn't want to live in Canada. He has a young team that doesn't know better in Columbus, and he is leading them like he led Tampa Bay in 2004.
His problem in Vancouver is that no one here respected him. They saw him as a big baby, prone to uncontrolled outbursts rather than a guy who is their leader. An athletic career is not much different than any other job, where if you don't respect your management, you're not going to be successful. It's why a guy like Babcock will succeed even if he loses in Toronto, whereas a buy like Torts can win a cup and hit 500 career wins, and still be looked down upon by the hockey world.
Torts is the Trump of hockey.
