Personally, I would expect Nintendo to have a follow up plan ready, and allow the device to play some additional games stored on some sort of external storage. The most obvious method would be to use the thing's built-in USB port to support some sort dock / external storage. From that point onwards, anything is possible.
But in that case, they should have made the NES mini like this:
used to have this! Remember when you had to blow into the cartridges until light headed to get them working sometimes? lol

SNES was the golden days where every developer wanted to work with them. Capcom, square soft, enix (yeah bitch, that old school where enix was still putting stuff out like illusion of gaia), konami, hudsonsoft, *shiver* LJN, tecmo, Jaleco, irem, acclaim, etc
That was a golden age for nintendo. Fuck all this bullshit, keep to themselves, nintendo crap.
Yeah, I'm still a little bewildered. What's the point of going through the entire development and production cycle when it is only sold for such a short time? Even if Nintendo plan on enabling NES & SNES emulation on the Switch, the Classic Mini would still cater to a different crowd and sell.
Contra III: The Alien Wars
Donkey Kong Country
EarthBound
Final Fantasy III
F-ZERO
Kirby Super Star
Kirby’s Dream Course
The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past
Mega Man X
Secret of Mana
Star Fox
Star Fox 2
Street Fighter II Turbo: Hyper Fighting
Super Castlevania IV
Super Ghouls ’n Ghosts
Super Mario Kart
Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars
Super Mario World
Super Metroid
Super Punch-Out!!
Yoshi’s Island
I really think the NES Mini came with some much better games, and I am totally regretting now that I didn't pick one up. Not too sure about whether I am interested in this SNES classic though. Of the built-in games, I am really only interested in Mario World and Super Punch Out. But the thing is, assuming the console can be / will be hacked to accept other SNES ROM, then the SNES library has a LOT of stuff that I enjoy.

That list of games is barely an essentials list of games. This was their chance to bring Seiken Densetsu 3 to North America and they didn't. Chrono Trigger is missing, Bahamut Lagoon, Tactics Ogre, Tales of Phantasia, Front Mission, Final Fight 2-3, Saturday Night Slam Masters, FUCKIN' BOMBERMAN, Lufia, Breath of Fire.
That list is a god damn shame to the SNES because it had hundreds of amazing games that deserve a spot. Well, this i'll get for collecting as this thing is the embodiment of my childhood in a little box.
