There's been 70 reported cases in the U.S. alone? Where are you getting this information. That number is almost double of what I've read has been globally reported cases. Around three dozen Galaxy Note 7 devices – or some 0.1 per cent of the entire volume sold – have been found to have batteries that caught fire and exploded.

A little odd that Health Canada is the one stating 70 reported cases in the U.S. but the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission has yet to release any such numbers.

I think you missed the point too. There haven't been any real or known cases of the phone blowing up in North America (to my knowledge). That speaks volumes as we are a different market and are receiving different variations of the device here.

Android Authority has its on their website 70+ cases
Over 70 Note 7 overheating incidents have been reported in the United States alone

Some more BAD news.. apparently the Core line also has issues
A Galaxy Note 7 didn’t explode in a child’s hands after all

Android Authority's source is also Canada Health. I just find it odd that the only study done on American reported cases is coming from a government agency in Canada.

Well if there's anything good to take away from this, the Galaxy S8 will probably be the safest phone ever because they can't afford to fuck up like this again.

It's because Samsung bypassed the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) in their recall process. Shady company.

The thing is how will they know I am using a note 7? Most of the flight attendant would be able to tell.

China's ATL to become main battery supplier for Samsung's Galaxy Note 7: source | Reuters

China's ATL becomes Note 7's main battery supplier lol. So Samsung doesn't trust their own battery division anymore.

They've probably been trained but I'm sure some will get missed -- I'm also sure they also made the notices about banning the Note7 clear before you board. If your phone catches fire because you left your phone on I'm guessing you'll get sued.

I'd just not overcharge it and not charge it on anything combustible, which is what I already do anyway. Hear about a few house fires over the years caused by phones catching fire when charging.

I was reading it wasn't whether or not you charge it full/overcharge but rather it's a design flaw where the terminals somehow short.

At first it didn't seem like a big deal but the # of cases have crept up a bit...i'm sure it's still like 0.01% of all units or whatever but why take chances if it's free...find a loaner phone and send the note7 in.

People for those that had it shipped to their house, did you get a shipping notification yet? Or call from Samsung?

"We have received your registration through the Samsung Exchange Process and we anticipate that your device will begin to ship starting as early as Thursday, September 19th."

I'm expecting mine to arrive around that time as people on XDA that received the same email with a date of the 15th are supposedly receiving them by the end of day tomorrow.

I wonder will there be a massive discount after the shitstorm just to boost sales. I wouldn't mind picking one up if it went on sale $750 unlock + $200 trade in.

U.S. regulators issue official recall of Samsung Note 7 smartphones - Technology & Science - CBC News

Quote:
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission is stepping in on a formal recall. Its chairman, Elliot Kaye, blasted Samsung for trying to do the recall on its own, saying that anyone who believes that to be adequate "needs to have more than their phone checked."

Some users are RFD are starting to get their replacements from registering on the recall website. Rogers still has no ETA. I'm still using mine but charging only when I can see the phone.

Guess I should register for the site instead of waiting for Rogers.
