Anyone know if Pre-orders in Canada are eligible for the free Daydream VR? Seeing posts about it for preorders in the US

radioman 11-21-2016 03:07 PM

I think we are way past pre orders man. I didnt see the VR promo when I ordered mine 2 weeks after launch.

eLy604 11-21-2016 08:21 PM

i think the free daydream view promo was only for verizon pre-orders in the states

I did a Daydream demo yesterday at Bestbuy. I can give a quick back to back summary comparison:

Daydream Pros:
Lightweight and more compact
Soft material feels nicer than plastic
Comes with a remote
Daydream Cons:
Light Bleed
Narrower field of view

Samsung VR PRos:
Feels like a very high quality product
Has a touch screen and buttons on the side
Very wide field of vision
Head strap is more adjustable to fit better
Samsung VR Cons:
No remote
Kind of clunky in comparison
Only works with Samsung
Gets kind of hot around your eyes after extended play (NOTE: do not get the white 2015 model, the black 2016 model has vents to help with this)

Conclusion:
The Samsung is priced at 139$, plus you need to buy a remote which is easily another 50$. Plus, the cost of a Samsung phone to even use it. That said, it goes on sale for 99$ frequently. The Google version is certainly the cheaper option.

The Samsung VR is more clunky, but is also a more serious VR setup than the Daydream. It has very little light bleed which is a major issue I noticed with the Google version. The Daydream field of view is noticeably narrower, almost tunnel like in comparison, and really reduces the feel of immersion. The Daydream is lighter, but what I have noticed is when you really get immersed into a game or video, that weight seems to just vanish. I did feel the Google version had crisper resolution, but at the same time I think it is because it really doesn't fill your field of vision.

To me the clear winner is the Samsung VR

I bought a Pixel (non XL) last week off Ebay lol...

My phone was having problems with the touch screen, and I didn't want to buy a replacement screen etc. (Sony Xperia Z3).

So just ended up browsing Ebay for the cheapest unused one. If you're willing to "risk" it, there should be plenty of options on Ebay etc.

So far I'm liking it, but have a few minor complaints :p

BTW you could have just bought a digitizer for like $10

Any major differences between the regular Pixel vs Pixel XL?

Currently using the iPhone 7 and like the size, but I wanna pick up a Pixel to play with.

incubus 11-30-2016 06:21 AM

I've has this phone for a week now and loving it. I'm having no problem with the car Bluetooth.

Yeah I couldn't wait anymore for a 128 xl. I barely used my storage on my old phone and I had a few movies on there so we'll see if I regret that decision.

SiRV 12-04-2016 08:29 PM

What kind of games do you guys play with the daydream VR?

EX-R 12-10-2016 07:57 PM

Just got my pixel today. I bought a spigen liquid crystal case but I still find it a little bulky. can anyone recommend an ultra thin case that still has decent protection?

gomcse2002 12-15-2016 01:35 PM

Should I go ahead ??

Got a notification to download Android 7.1.1 for my Pixel XL today. Should I go ahead to download the updates ?

Thought your wife told you to sell it :lawl:

gomcse2002 12-15-2016 02:00 PM

Yes, before I sell it, I still need to consider whether I should do the upgrade or not. LOL.

that was 9-10 months ago, the next XL from LG is inbound soon

Traum 07-22-2017 01:27 PM

I don't suppose anyone would expect Google to go back an release a mid-level phone like they did in the past, right?

Spoon 07-22-2017 02:38 PM

Only mid level phone you'll find is from chinese phone makers. I've switched over to Huawei, works great so far.

rumour is that the HTC Pixel 2 is going to be more mid-range (who knows if it's going to be priced more fairly this time) while the LG Pixel XL will have the flagship specs

Spoon 07-22-2017 04:58 PM

Price for a mid-level Google phone is $900. I guess Google and I just don't see eye to eye anymore. :fuckthatshit:

BIC_BAWS 07-22-2017 09:14 PM

I don't think I'm the only one, but I'd love it if Google made another Nexus 5 (not that Nexus 5x crap, the original one!). I really miss that phone.

Saw from a friend that T Booth is offering a free Google Pixel on a 2 year contract for $45. Unlimited text and call tho, only until end of day tomorrow.

Bought the Pixel from Koodo at $364 each..........I dont think I would pay full price for the next pixel either.

Realistically the pixel should be good for 4 yearish.

Nabatron 07-23-2017 02:08 PM

I stayed away from the pixel because of the price. I went with oneplus5 but if google continues to have their next pixel close to the same price as an iphone I think most people will not buy it but who knows...
