Sundin scored 28 points in 41 games (56-point pace) despite being completely out of shape for the first month or so, was a point-per-game in the playoffs. Many Canucks credited him with taking their game to another level (Sedins, Kesler, Edler to name a few). Had contract offers on the table when he left.

He left playing at a high level, borderline elite once he got back into shape.

I know most fans criticized Sundin cause he wasn't what everyone expected. They wanted a point/game scorer. While his regular season was disappointing, I believe his leadership and presence helped many of the younger players on the team. He also took a small pay cut as well from Canucks' initial offer so that they could have more cap space to make additions later.

At the end, it was only half a season, it was just money, Canucks didn't trade off assets for him, he didn't handcuff the team in any way, and he produced where it counted... the playoffs.

That's how I remember him:

He did start looking good at the end of the campaign, too bad he couldn't give us a year after of being in shape. He really did use the first 1.5 months of his time here as a conditioning exercise more than actually playing. It would've been nice to see what he could do the next year.

On the day the Sedins announced their retirement, 1040 was talking about how Sundin assessed the team and told management that Henrik should be their next captain, how he helped Kesler with his offensive game, how he got Edler into the gym for the first time. All stuff I never new about, but wouldn't surprise me given his leadership in Toronto. And that shootout goal, even though it was against the Leafs, was really a treat because we got to see his talent one more time.

Wow ... cut throat business! Wasn't his fault that the Rangers sucked this year, was it? So which team will go after him, Montreal? Canadiens should not have hired Julien.

HNIC said that Rangers signed a 3 year deal with AV and there are 2 more years on that deal. But I think that becomes void if another teams hires him as coach.

spoon.ek9 04-07-2018 07:53 PM

damn, didn't see that coming. i thought they were happy with AV? guess they want to go in a totally different direction.

originalhypa 04-07-2018 07:57 PM

Poor AV.
The team had stated that they were going in a different direction all season though.

But what about this interview with the president of the Humboldt Broncos? What sad news coming out of Saskatchewan.

But this has to be the saddest interview in the history of hockey on CBC right now. The poor guy lost his son in the accident.
:tears:

What a sad day for hockey.

looks like we'll have either the 5th or 6th pick

whitev70r 04-07-2018 08:13 PM

Love John Shorthouse as play by play on NHIC tonight. The normal guy who does it is about as exciting as a piece of plywood.

spoon.ek9 04-07-2018 08:24 PM

Pouliot playing a lot better tonight. He was absolutely horrible last game. Disguised by all the emotion of the game.

With the one point tonight (at least), 6th, I think.

Why didn't Green do the Anaheim move in OT with the Oilers?

spoon.ek9 04-07-2018 08:50 PM

omg so close lol. dammit, that would have been awesome.

pastarocket 04-07-2018 08:50 PM

It's a shootout! :gun:
