mini 4runner? :ahwow:

the 2019 RAV4 is powered by a Dynamic Force 2.5-litre inline-four mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission. Toyota brags that the base engine offers an incredible (for an internal combustion engine) 40 per cent efficiency. Mated to Rear Driveline Disconnect system, which routes all the AWD system’s power to the front wheels for greater fuel efficiency, Toyota claims significant fuel consumption gains, though it doesn’t say how much.

As for the Hybrid version, it combines the 2.5L engine — now with 41 per cent efficiency — and Toyota promises class leading fuel economy and “no compromise” performance.

On the dynamic front, Toyota claims a whopping 57 per cent increase in the unibody’s rigidity, which should translate into better handling and ride qualities. There’s even a Trail version of the RAV4, which Toyota says has a “stout stance, standard Dynamic Torque Vectoring AWD, and a reliable and tough functionality that’s apt for any road.” The Trail also a more rugged exterior, thanks to its more aggressive grille, fog light surrounds, and unique wheel design.

Wow that's impressive, doesn't look like a cheap boring lifted Econo box any more.

twitchyzero 03-28-2018 07:02 AM

I wouldn't mind an old limited with V6...but yeah most of the others :heckno:

Edison_Chen 03-28-2018 07:33 AM

I think the front end of the adventure model looks pretty good. Looking from the side, it looks like a Subaru Crosstrek

asian_XL 03-28-2018 07:48 AM

I bet it makes 180hp and 22mpg

dapperfied 03-28-2018 08:15 AM

:notbad: considering that I like the new 4Runner

Tone Loc 03-28-2018 08:17 AM

The one on the right looks gorgeous. Wow. I'm even digging the roof treatment that looks similar to the old FJ Cruiser.

If Toyota makes the 4Runner update look like a bigger, more squared-off, more off-roadable version of this thing I will be very impressed!

MarkyMark 03-28-2018 08:33 AM

I'm digging the size and style, the new 4Runners are getting too big. Might have to look into this when the time comes to give up the truck.

Teriyaki 03-28-2018 08:42 AM

Rear end is like VW Tiguan and Mitsubishi Eclipse-Cross had a baby.

Wonder what the performance numbers are like. Knowing Toyota, it'll likely be 90% FWD until it detects slip...

Edit: Found its actually 100% FWD until slip... "Mated to Rear Driveline Disconnect system, which routes all the AWD system’s power to the front wheels for greater fuel efficiency"

Aggressive, me like. Can't wait to get cut off/almost sideswiped by one

More likely, they will drive at 30kph at all times, in classic Toyota fashion.

And turn slowly AF because SUVs.

The grill on the left one looks like shxt, but the one on the right is gorgeous. Why bother having the ugly grill version at all?

Funnel 03-28-2018 09:46 AM

Because the ugly grill in your eye might be gorgeous in other's eye?

Potentially. I'd be interested to see what percentage thinks that grill looks pretty though.

Manic! 03-28-2018 10:30 AM

I clicked to see how ugly they were but I was pleasantly surprised. It looks really good.

twitchyzero 03-28-2018 10:31 AM

some dont prefer the bulldog snout grille that was started with the R35 and Evo X...so I can definitely see people opting for the conventional (even if it's uglier to me) cheese grater grille

MarkyMark 03-28-2018 10:32 AM

Paint that grille on the left black and it wouldn't be so bad.

They look good, but I want the V6 back. Pulling away from people trying to pace me on the highway with my in-laws powder blue Rav is one of the best parts of a road trip.

I love it. Toyota's really making a comeback. First the TNGA platform and making everything at least LOOK sportier, if not much sportier to drive.

Also torque vectoring AWD in this category is quite impressive, sounds like SH-AWD, which is an incredible performing system.

First the Supra, then the Corolla Hatch with a rev-matching 6spd, now this. They be on fiyahhh.

Why do I see jokers face when I look at this new Rav. Especially the one on the right.

twitchyzero 03-29-2018 06:48 AM

the hybrid looks very aggressive and clean
I thought it was as lexus at first...they could simply rebadge and charge another 15-20k

How are the Toyota hybrids, would anyone recommend it over the regular engine?

My job has about a dozen prius and camry from various generation. They get driven a lot at about 50k annually without any major issues aside from basic maintenance.

Toyota needs to bring diesel options here. The best truck I've ever owned was a 3rd gen hilux surf. I miss the old square body designs.
