Kim expressed hope that one day South and North Korean citizens would be able to use the same road that he had to reach the summit.
“Panmunjom is a symbol of pain and suffering and division but it will turn into a symbol of peace. Using one language, one culture, one history South and North korea will be reunited as one country, thus enjoying everlasting peace and prosperity," he said.

He was doing what worked. Just like he is now.
He'll spin it as America backing down to his threats.
He'll look like a hero to his people for ending the war and possibly unifying the country. It's the best hand he can play.
His bluff was finally called

Seems like he painted himself in a corner and this was his only way out.
Does this mean that the north Koreans will be allowed to freely walk across the border and see what life is really like??

I can't imagine the culture shock north koreans will get when that happens though, so probably some system will be implemented where a whole country won't feel like caveman when they go into south korea.

I could see a revolt and a lot of civil unrest from them the moment they get a glimpse of what "normal" life is... If and when it comes to that point things will have to be carefully orchestrated.

This is fantastic news! -best news that I have heard all week in light of the bad news we've had recently such as the van attack in Toronto.
All those single guys in NK will be shocked to see all the hot SK girls they have been separated from all these years.
China and the U.S. will be involved in the process towards the lifting of sanctions and denuclearization of NK, and the eventual unification of Korea.
Trump had better not mess up the peace process!

What if NK is actually pretending that they want peace, but then turn around and shoot nukes at everyone once their guards are down

I'm not sure how they would gradually phase in "the real world" to them but once they're able to cross back and forth it'll be interesting. Everything they've ever known is a lie. Would they still be loyal and faithful to their supreme leader?

I think the biggest challenge will be the procedures and politics around unifying the two. If the border was to open up between the two, i think it would create too much of a floodgate both culturally and economically for both

Unification won’t happen, at least not for a longggg time. The people of NK can’t just be brought into the modern world.
When the Soviet Union collapsed and the iron curtain fell almost everyone in those countries, especially in like east and West Berlin, they all knew what the other side was like, it was just out of their reach.
NK they might as well be some uncontacted amazon tribe

No chance in hell NK will give up their nuclear arms
It is the one thing they have that would prevent them from becoming like Ukraine and Libya... (Both were invaded and overthrown because they gave up their weapons, for promises of protection and goodwill from western countries)
NK will play nice, drag it along so they could get the sanction lifted.
They might slowly integrate with the rest of the world, but only as much as they can keep their power and their population obedient.

you guys are crazy if you think there will be free immigration between the two countries, or if you think there will be unification of any sort. They just talked about 'lasting peace' in the region, which just means they aren't going to attack each other. (or so they say)

As much as Fat Boy Kim says they'll de-nuclearize, I woudln't trust him for a minute that their nuclear research will stop.
IMO, the biggest factor was obviously how DPRK got called out on its bluffing. Another part of the problem is, their nuclear testing program has inevitably come to a major road block -- the mountain that serves as their nuclear test site has physically collasped due to the repeated testing (some 6 or 7 times, I seem to think?). Without a site to test their nukes, they can't progress it any further. Atmospheric testing is obviously not an option since it'll just result in total annilation of the country.

			rodman for nobel peace prize
I don't believe Kim will pull a quick one, probably just coming to his senses that a military regime from dear father and beyond will only get him ostracized by the world, there's nothing to show for all the sabre-rattling except for a twitter feud

Again, I will emphasize that I have zero trust in Kim. Even if (when?) he "opens up his country" to UN inspections for nuclear-related audits, I will remain unconvinced of his intentions for a long time to come.
But let's suppose Kim really does open up his country for those inspections, and then the inspections find nothing, or that Kim shows the inspectors how they are dismantling their nuclear gear. If the Nobel Prize committee chooses to nominate / declare Kim, Moon, and (gasp!) Trump as joint winners in Nobel Peace Prize, how would you feel about that?
I know I will be super disgusted if that were to occur.
