I have a fixed window in my livingroom that faces the deck, at my townhouse. Going to change the window with one that looks the same but slides open at the bottom and install a 25k BTU window unit. Already have a 2'x4' bar height table to go around it.

From my research and reading professional reviews, the difference nowadays between single vs dual hose is negligible. Especially in condos, where air is being pulled mostly from the hallways, which are often cooler and also air-conditioned already.

At my building, the hallways are air-conditioned to refrigerator levels, every year everyone just props their doors open with a shoe and puts a fan by the door blowing into their apartments... and then the strata comes along with a notice saying we're taxing the building's system too much and they'll fine anyone doing that. Repeat next summer  | |

A good friend of mine showed me this product. He’s does heating and ventilation for work and suggested this to me as my place is bloody hot. Basically a portable mini heat pump. Runs off 110v and easy to put anywhere. Little expensive but it’s probably pretty efficient. https://m.costco.ca/ForestAir-Mini-S...100411448.html

Major design flaws, terrible manual (customer service told me to do the opposite of what the manual said when connecting the indoor unit to the outdoor unit).
The biggest design flaw, IMO, was that the unit didn't drain properly, leaving stagnant water in the bottom of the indoor unit, which made indoor air quality terrible (bacterial growth) and started giving me breathing issues. Have to disconnect the refrigerant lines to drain water from the unit and you lose refrigerant every time you connect and disconnect the refrigerant lines. The refrigerant lines are very stiff and difficult to work with. The window hardware doesn't do a very good job of isolating the outside from the inside.
I was super disappointed, but fortunately, having purchased it from Costco, no hassle return.
Edit: This appears to be a new model (mine was an 8000 BTU unit). Very similar in appearance, hopefully they fixed the flaws. Last year's model was $830, I bought it on sale for $680. $1000 seems steep.

Buddy bought the costco ac unit and then realized with his apt and window being those 45 degree angled ones, he didn't want to go through the hassle of retrofitting it.
returned it.... Can't be that hard can it? Some duct tape, nice foam, angle the exhaust/intake opposing each other?

Dando plug and play ones seem to work well enough for home and open-house last year we had at 30f+ apartment with no A/C. Jesus I tell you 5pm Southern exposure glassy highrise is like a sauna!
Only downside is the noise. We have one for home too and nothing beats central AC or a properly retrofitted geothermal unit where the motor is at least somewhere farther.

my brother in law bought one for their condo and was gonna return it because of the swivel window. It was sitting by the front door for a few days when i went over, it was hot af when I asked why he hadn't used it yet. I said really? I literally took it out of the box connected all the pieces, used the dam box it came in to jimmy together a makeshift bracket which covered the window, left off the hose ends and cut some circles in the cardboard, inserted the hoses and taped that shizz all up and voila instant ac. sure it looks like shit, but when you're all nice and cool who really gives a dam  | |

I would love a/c in our place but unfortunately we only have two options for venting. One is a window that swings outwards about 30 degrees max. The other is a door that leads to the patio. It's a standard door with hinges on one side and a door knob that opens outwards. I have yet to figure out out to rig some kind of venting system. That could work with either the door or the tiny window.

The guys there should be able to cut you out something or have an idea as to what the best solution is.

You can go to any plastic provider(imperial plastics), send them measurements of your frame and the size of the exhaust port, they will cut 1/4' plexi to size. From there you just take your plexi, silicone or glue it to the window sill and plug you exhaust port into the hole. Make sure you ask to keep the cut out of the hole too, so you can use it as a plug in the winter when you remove the AC. My Plexi stays on the window year round but I forgot to ask for the plug so we just tape it sealed when we don't use the AC.

We have the exact same setup but instead of gluing it onto the window sill we used heavy duty velcro to installed on to the window sill as well as weather strips around the plastic. Works fine and still able to use the window during the other seasons. Quote:

In the end, people were nervous on who would have to pay if something went wrong from installation... is it the responsibility of the owner of the unit, or the strata. Couldn't come to a consensus.
