What I find more bizarre about these Trump folks riffing off about Mexican and Spanish speaking Americans, is that MEXICANS ARE PART OF AMERICA, literally, geographically. Spanish language is part of a America, it's most definitely as much of a native language as you can get within the region, unlike Mandarin or Cantonese here in Vancouver. Our problem stems from a relatively recent wave of immigrants, the so called Mexican issue is not the case, whatsoever
Manhattan is not in Arizona
much like Vancouver is not in Quebec

we are a port town on the Pacific and is likely more connected to the Far East than compared to Atlantic Canada or even Ottawa
a stroll down west end and you'll find more ramen shops, BBT, Korean food than Western offerings

This I can agree.

My grandparent were just traveling to Canada, BTW. I think we can make an exception for (older) tourists. My grandpa knows really basic words in English and that was it.

IMO it's a mutual respect and courtesy - I am very willing to learn the local culture and language, but in cases where it's more convenient to speak my native language, I don't think people should be judgemental about it.

It wasn't judgment. Communicating is an important part of living here together.
And that's not really an accurate parallel, since this country was founded by the French.
You can go ahead and choose any other European language if you like tho

Canada and the US have completely opposite policies in regards to 'multiculturalism'.
The US, like most countries who take in immigrants, is a melting pot. Immigrants are expected to assimilate to the host culture.
Canada instead accommodates for immigrant cultures. Promoting the preservation of language and culture.

Bit of a false equivalency, at least to me.
Buddy Mandarin and Cantonese are as part of Vancouver as Hindi and Punjabi.
It’s as prevalent here in Vancouver as Spanish is in the United States.

Yeah we've all heard that Canada is a "Mosaic" and the US is a "Melting Pot" - whatever the fuck that means. I personally believe they're just wishy-washy feel good buzzwords. In practice all immigrants pretty much follow the pattern - First Generation sticks to their own kind and speaks their own language, Second Generation grows up and has one foot in their parent's culture (of varying degrees), Third Generation completely assimilates and forgets Grandparent's language.

How many 4th and 5th gen Ukrainian-Canadians in Saskatoon and Italian-Canadians in Vaughn still identify themselves as such? Even old school Japanese-Canadians are pretty much English only at this point and I'm not talking about the ESL students downtown. So much for a "Mosaic" we melt just as much as the Americans.

There is very little deviation from this norm unless there is some kind of state/societal apparatus keeping minorities separate (see Malaysia, France). It's just that Vancouver right now has a majority of it's visible minorities as first generation immigrants still (Yes that includes all the fuerdais driving Lambos around) keeping a bunch of rednecks pissed off about mUh EnGrisH nOt BeIn' Spokun!!

That lawyer doe, I wouldn't be surprised if he has mental health issues. New York attorney in racist rant has history of confrontations

New York has a huge Puerto Rican population and Puerto Ricans are, from birth, citizens of the United States. Could he have been contemplating calling ICE on a fellow American? Hell, maybe.

Also, take a look at this guy's LinkedIn profile. He, himself, speaks Spanish on a "Professional Level". Whats the problem here, pal?

That's a bit biased. So you're saying that those who have only learned English and now only speak English are less intelligent than others who speak two or more languages?

I'll be sure to let my CPA wife and her colleagues know what a bunch of retards they are

I will admit what I said was a bit extreme, but like I said, I am only targeting it to the rude idiots.
