I heard the law prof who made the argument lost to her in the election for the CA attorney general race, so he's probably still salty

You also run the risk of mail/postal box theft, especially in neighbourhoods known to vote for X party, they even have a window of when most ppl will likely be voting

ppl are too extreme now, on both ends of the spectrum

They should be voting thru their phones, it'd be a lot safer than the mail

SkinnyPupp 08-13-2020 08:41 PM

Trump should just cancel the election and stay president year by year until they solve Coronavirus SeemsGood

trump and his family have a history of voting by mail.. but when other people do it it's potential fraud.

That's all evident and obvious, but that doesn't matter.

Besides, Trump is purposely nerfing the Postal Service, which is only exacerbating the entire issue here.

They should allow people to drop off their ballots directly at a setup postage office or drop center of some point as well, if they don't already.

The problem is that elections are administered and handled different from state to state by their elected party. Unlike here in Canada where it's handled by an independent body, Elections Canada.

It's an unbelievably corrupt system. This will be the most contested election in history.

By the way, the birtherism comments about Kamala, Jesus, the dog whistling continues.

Manic! 08-14-2020 03:19 PM

Wow, another business run by trump not doing well. I am shocked!!! :eek3:

SkinnyPupp 08-14-2020 03:36 PM

Michigan, Wisconsin, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Florida, Texas. Weird coincidence :considered:

SkinnyPupp 08-14-2020 03:52 PM

If Trump somehow manages to fuck up the election enough to either make it unclear who wins, or keep himself in the Whitehouse, or outright win, I think there is going to be a violent uprising that will make June's protests look like a picnic.

Holy fuck the US has gone full Third World now. United Nations needs to start sending in Election Monitors now to ensure a free election lol.

/s ....or not?

!LittleDragon 08-14-2020 07:02 PM

I could believe it.. When I used to sell stuff on eBay, about 15% of the stuff I send to the US never makes it to the buyer. Either USPS failed to deliver or the buyer is BSing me but I find it hard to believe 15% of my buyers were out to scam me.

As a former big ebay seller, 15% isn't that far off the mark of how many scammers there are if you don't protect yourself properly

StylinRed 08-14-2020 07:30 PM

USPS always had a horrible reputation, but for me, I always preferred having usps deliver my orders cuz it meant canadapost would handle em once in Canada, and I've always preferred their handling over say fedex/ups

About 20% of my cousin's wedding invites didn't make it either. She had to deal with friends and family accusing her of not inviting them.

The osce sends observers to us elections, they've been doing it since Bush #2 or so

Ludepower 08-15-2020 07:10 AM

God bless our Canada Post and Healthcare. What a truly fucked up country down there.

unit 08-15-2020 07:32 AM

and also the fact that we never have any major controversy over voter fraud or suppression... maybe minus the robocall scandal, which seems like fuck all now compared to the shit that happens in the states during every election (looking at you florida)

For all those trump fans who were upset about omar khadr. This guy killed 3 Australians in Afghanistan is about to go free.

https://www.smh.com.au/politics/fede...10-p55ka6.html

Quote:

Prime Minister Scott Morrison has appealed directly to United States President Donald Trump, expressing Australia’s concerns about releasing a rogue Afghan soldier who murdered three Australians in Afghanistan.

The former sergeant in the Afghan National Army, known as Hekmatullah, could be released as part of a prisoner swap deal with the Taliban in the coming weeks.

fficials from the Department of Defence contacted the families of the three Australian soldiers on Friday, warning Hekmatullah would probably be one of 5000 prisoners to be released as part of peace negotiations between the Afghan government and the Taliban.

Hekmatullah has spent seven years in jail after murdering Lance Corporal Stjepan Milosevic, Sapper James Martin and Private Robert Poate in August 2012 while they were playing cards.

He fled the base after shooting the three unarmed Diggers and injuring two others, but was captured in late 2013 and sentenced to death for the attack.

What do you think the motives are in the cases of US and Hong Kong, compared to NZ? Do you think it's just coronavirus?

Really you don't know the difference?

Unlike some other countries, New Zealand has no fixed election-date for general elections, but rather the Prime Minister determines the timing of general elections by advising the Governor-General when to issue the writs for a general election. The Constitution Act 1986 requires new parliamentary elections every three years, unless a major crisis arises or the Prime Minister loses the ability to command a majority in parliament.[11] The 1910s, 1930s and 1940s saw three elections delayed due to World War I, the Great Depression and World War II, respectively: the 1919, 1935 and 1943 elections would otherwise have taken place in 1917, 1934 and 1941 (Parliaments passed Acts extending their terms).

The US has a fixed election date.

The Twentieth Amendment (Amendment XX) to the United States Constitution moved the beginning and ending of the terms of the president and vice president from March 4 to January 20, and of members of Congress from March 4 to January 3. It also has provisions that determine what is to be done when there is no president-elect. The Twentieth Amendment was adopted on January 23, 1933.[1]

The amendment was designed largely to limit the "lame duck" period, when members of Congress and the president served their terms after an election but without being re-elected. By having congressional terms begin before presidential terms, the amendment results in the incoming Congress, rather than the outgoing one, holding a contingent election in the event the Electoral College deadlocks regarding either the presidential election or the vice presidential election. The amendment also establishes procedures in the case that a president-elect dies, is not chosen, or otherwise fails to qualify prior to the start of a new presidential term.
