The United States federal budget for fiscal year 2018, which ran from October 1, 2017 to September 30, 2018, was named America First: A Budget Blueprint to Make America Great Again. It was the first budget proposed by newly-elected President Donald Trump, submitted to the 115th Congress on March 16, 2017.[2][3]

The government was initially funded through a series of five temporary continuing resolutions. The final funding package was passed as an omnibus spending bill, the Consolidated Appropriations Act, 2018, enacted on March 23, 2018.
Why didn't he shut down the government then to get the wall funded?

Also if you thing a wall will slow down the drug trade your lost and clueless.

He's doing it now. Before (((the resistance))) settles in.
The whole thing is just comical. Illegal immigration was a BIPARTISAN issue before these hypocrites contracted trump derangement syndrome.

Show me one example where a border barrier made no difference in reducing illegal immigration and I'll show you five that did.

He should have done it earlier when he had both the house and senate. Why didn't he do it then? He had his chance and failed.

You both keep arguing different points.. and you're both right. Trump should have passed the wall budget through when he had the house and the senate. not sure why he didn't.. that was dumb.
But now the dems have lost their minds.. they're for illegal immigration. that makes no sense, and they didn't hold that position before all of trump's wall talk in 2016+

How did not providing funding for the dumba$$ wall equate to pro illegal immigration? Can't understand how these leaps in logic work at all.

I wouldn't say they are pro illegal immigration but there is a segment of progressives who want completely open borders. They wish to allow people to come and go as they please and essentially legalize all forms of immigration.

There is also a segment of conservatives who are more than happy to maintain the status quo as it allows them to employ cheap labour and keep that labour in line with the threat of deportation.

Both Democrats and Republicans have, at one time or another, pushed for tougher border security to combat illegal immigration. They tend to switch their stance with the prevailing winds of elections.

i argued his point.
i'm not sure where people get the impression that the president passes budgets. it goes through congress. he's tried to get funding on multiple occasions. congress wouldn't pass it.
he's compromised from his $25b request to just $5b. a sizeable reduction to put it mildly. they're being unreasonable and refuse to negotiate.
they spend hundreds of billions on national security and can't spare $5b for a barrier. that's pretty ridiculous.

there is no economical substitute for a physical barrier. it's just common sense. but apparently even common sense needs to be argued these days.
have a look at the apprehension stats prior to the construction of their 600 mile barrier (which dems fought to complete) and then after.
while there were other factors involved, the barrier clearly helped to reduce those numbers drastically.

So is the wall going to cost 25 billion or 5 billion?

I thought one of the main reasons for the decline in illegals going to Mexico was that things their were improving. Trump would be dumb if he declared a national emergency, even threatening it was stupid as it's help to set a precedent for future presidents if they dont get what they want.

In the end I hope the democrats say yes to the funding, they can spin it to show they are the party of the people and worried about gov't employees not being paid... If they can use that goodwill in to the next election they could just cancel the project as I highly doubt it will be done in 2 years and they will probably have a few more shutdown/delays to get additional funding which would add even more time.

The democrats will cave. It's inevitable. They haven't got a leg to stand on.
They call a wall "immoral and ineffective" yet stood behind it for the previous administrations. People can clearly see that and they just look like fools. They have no reasonable excuse for opposing funding and keeping this government shutdown going.

Trumps MO: drive them crazy to the point of self destruction.
It's really entertaining to see.

If they cave, end the shutdown, and he gets his wall funding, you don't post on rs for six months proceeding.
If he caves, and doesn't get his funding, I'll do the same.

Deal?

Manic! is correct.

It was who was going to win the federal election.

As for linking, you're going to have to search through the post history. The bet details was essentially a $100 Liberal vs. Conservative.
