Trump begins tearing down parts of the White House to build his ballroom. This is completely nuts - privately funded and not approved by Congress and they're tearing down a historic building. These people have no shame.
What a noob - should have used public money to pay for this!

Privately funded by embezzling taxpayer funds into his bank account by charging his own security exorbitant amounts to stay at mar a lago.
Welcome to the new “whites only house”

The "Get Tough on China" president is an absolute hypocrite. -made money selling merch during election campaign by selling stuff made in China.
Then he gets tough on China by raising tariffs to 155% on made in Chinese goods during his second term on POTUS.
Meanwhile, the American people are going to pay much more on goods made in China now. Electronics, toys, shoes, clothing, etc.
He really thinks that companies are going to absorb the 155% tariffs on Chinese goods as American importers??
When the tariffs have been artificially set to be that high, wouldn't trade just come to a screeching halt since there is no way any profits can be made from the goods?
Wasn't that what happened for a period of time earlier this year when Trump/US and Xi/China got into exactly the same spat? I think it was Trump slapping one tariff on China, then China hit back, and the tariffs just escalated to something in the 150% range, at which point China just stopped playing the game and said they would no longer respond to any further tariff hikes.
This only played out a couple of months ago. How can Trump not remember this, and expect a different outcome when he is doing exactly the same thing all over again?
The only difference is -- in the previous round, importers had been stocking up and hoarding goods in anticipation of the tariff wars so that when it actually hit, they still had inventory to release. Now that existing inventory has dwindled down, and as our resident inside mole has told us, international shipping has really slowed down.
Good luck on not seeing inflated prices soon...

Another outcome of the 155 percent tariffs from Cheeto on China is possible changes in American consumers shopping habits for Christmas.
What are the chances of us seeing more Americans cross the border to buy stuff for the U.S. Thanksgiving and Christmas?
MAGAs buying electronics, clothes, etc. in Canada during the upcoming holidays?
"Oh no, Black Friday shopping is so expensive in November now because of the tariffs. Hey, let's drive into Canada to do some Black Friday shopping!"
President Barack Obama, who preceded Trump, had the White House tennis court converted to also be able to host basketball games.
The White House swimming pool was converted into the Press Room during Richard Nixon's presidency. Briefings now still regularly take place in the room where presidents once swam laps. (OK FINE, this was for press room)
The indoor pool had originally been installed in 1933 for President Franklin D Roosevelt, who swam regularly for exercise due to a polio diagnosis more than a decade earlier.
After it closed, Gerald Ford had an outdoor pool installed in 1975.
It seems to me that the news cycle has lately been reporting on how Trump is using the military to blow up (and kill) Venenzula boats accused of drug trafficking on international waters in the Caribbeans.
Without providing any evidence, Trump is accusing these boats of "narcoterrorism". (Everything is terrorism nowadays, because if it isn't, Trump would not be able to abuse his presidential emergency powers to direct this sort of action.) Recently, the Colombia president hit back at Trump bcos one of the boats the US military had blown up was apparently a Colombian fishing boat, and its (Colombian) fisherman was killed during the strike.
Two thoughts came to my mind -- cracking down on crime -- drug trafficking in this case -- is important. But following due process to ensure there is procedural justice in delivering that justice (ie. conviction of the crime) is equally important. Not only is Trump not providing any evidence of the drug trafficking being comitted, he is basically getting the military to carry out extrajudicial killing.
The Philippines' Duterte is currently being charged by the ICC for pretty much the same thing, although in Duterte's case, the number of deaths involved are far higher, and the brutality involved seemed far worst. And of course with the US being the US, they'll never surrender a former president to the ICC even if a Demoractic president were elected.

What's going on with the Democrats? Like they can't do anything at all? Cuz he can just executive order anything? Or is it cuz the gov is shut down? It seems they've been quite quiet, with little to no pushback?

The “basketball court” was an adaptation of the White House tennis court (painted lines, removable hoops) done early in the Obama presidency
I don't think painting a few lines and putting up some portable hoops is the same as taking down a part of the white house to build a 200 million dollar ballroom.

Yea so I wonder how this is gonna play out. According to Tesla earnings call tariffs hit was $300m in Q2, and $400m in Q3, that's $700m every 6 months. And this is Tesla with deep pockets to pay. you can buy a new ballroom every 2 months.... Profit?
FBI Director Kash Patel and other officials on Thursday detailed a massive mafia-linked gambling and sports rigging probe that led to the arrests of Miami Heat guard Terry Rozier and Portland Trail Blazers head coach Chauncey Billups.
• The probe involved two major operations: One centered on illegal betting on various NBA games and another revolving around underground poker games, where “high-tech cheating technology” was used to steal millions from victims, US Attorney Joseph Nocella Jr. said.
• Among the defendants in the dual operations are members of four major American crime families, as well as current and former NBA players and coaches, New York City Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch said.
The United States District Court for the Eastern District of New York has released its full indictment naming the 31 defendants charged in the underground poker game scheme.
Law enforcement officials say the defendants — which include members of four American crime families — used cheating technology to steal millions from victims during the rigged games.
NBA figures: Miami Heat guard Terry Rozier, Portland Trail Blazers head coach Chauncey Billups and former NBA player Damon Jones are the three league figures named as facing charges so far, law enforcement officials tell CNN Sports.
Mafia families: Thirteen members and associates of the Bonanno, Gambino and Genovese New York crime families are among the defendants in the two cases, according to Christopher Raia, the assistant director in charge of the FBI’s New York Field Office. Raia said an illegal gambling operation created a “financial pipeline” for La Cosa Nostra.
Teams whose games were bet on: While many specifics of the scheme are still unknown, the US attorney for the Eastern District of New York said there were specific examples of “illegal betting on various NBA games” that hinged on the performances of players on teams including the Charlotte Hornets, Portland Trail Blazers, Los Angeles Lakers and Toronto Raptors.

Apparently, Galumph is terminating trade negotiations because ONT is going to release an anti-tariff ad featuring Ronald Reagan to American audiences. Ford is kind of strategic in trying to drive a wedge between Ronald Reagan Republicans and MAGA. Hopefully, it works.
I am not at all surprised that Trump used this as a convenient excuse to terminate trade negotiations. He never had any real interest in removing the tariffs anyway because the tariffs served as a pretty effective tool that allows him to bully other countries into submission, and that's just who he is -- a bully. Ultimately, everything he does stems from that.
What I do find unbelievable and absurd is -- there are some Canadians, maybe even a lot of them -- who are blaming Ford and/or Carney for Trump terminating the trade negotiations. It is simply bewildering. They are giving a free pass to the bully for being bully, and they are blaming the person that told the truth (Ford).
I have no love for Ford, but he is not in the wrong this time.

If it wasn’t this it would have been anything else. Carneys socks offended him, some random Canadian wrote a mean tweet, it doesn’t matter. The end result will always be a tantrum.
