Personally, I don't know how Trump / Brendan Carr / FCC isn't getting sued for 1st Amendment violations when Trump has the audacity to say this on public television (and have the video made available via WH).
Of course, he also incited the Jan 6 riots and got away with it.
We are watching facism take root in real time, and none of the institutions that are supposed to stop this are actually doing their jobs.

Brendan Carr who by the way is heavily linked to the Heritage Foundation, and wrote mandates for Project 2025.
Pretty crazy stuff, these guys are moving quicker with their bullshit than anyone could've imagined.

Not everything is crazy. As I expected this was gonna cross partisan lines. Freedom of speech is a big deal and I didn't think this would sit well with some of the right.
trump has jacked the H1B1 visa from $2 to 5k a year to 100K causing panic at airports and Indian families cancelling flights. If you leave the country you have to pay 100k to get back in.
Really sad. I have a lot of cousins here on H-1B and we had a big family reunion in India in a couple weeks. Actually cried this morning. I’m American so I’m fine to travel wherever but who knows how long it’ll be before all this bs calms down.

I've run out of comforting words to say to some of my friends, family and coworkers that may be impacted by this ridiculous rule. They've spent so many resources to find a life here, to send their kids here. A proclamation like this would be absolutely crushing if it becomes a law. Hoping that the Fab 7 grows a spine and stands up to these bullies for their workers-- if they aren't complicit in creating this proclamation in the first place.

Just another way for him to grift, he'll give exemptions to companies that maybe buy some Trump Meme Coin or donate to his library on down low. Trump will squeeze everything he can out of this presidency, what happens to the Country or anyone in it is irrelevant.

All this instability on the visa program is causing some real headaches. I have friends working down in the US on active visas and they can't even come home to Canada to visit for fear of not being allowed back into the US.
The whole thing is a shit show.

It will probably increase his support even more by doing this among Gen Z.

Begs the question even further, why are you still here then?
You can easily make more money doing whatever the fuck you're doing here. You obviously hate the Canadian government and despise much the Canadian mindset.

I'm not too well versed in H1B visas even though I have a bunch of friends that went down to work in the US through these H1B visas. Is it the person with the visa that pays the fees? or is it the company hiring them that pays the fees?
Nearly everyone I know that went down to the US via the H1B route is in computer science. So my immediate reaction is that the US tech industry is gonna be fxxked. Which other fields would commonly go through H1B to get themselves down there? Nurses? Pharmacists? Doctors?
One of the most important reasons the US has been able to be as strong as it has been (in the past) is precisely because of its ability to attract the best and brightest minds to the US. The Ivy League school crackdowns have already scared off a bunch of professors to go elsewhere, and I have no doubt that this H1B visa thing will put another damper on attracting non-US talents to the US.

Just lmfao @ wHy aRE yoU STilL hERe ThEn?
Bro, what even is the "Canadian mindset?" Is that the mindset when Carney concedes to Trump and gets nothing in return? What happened to getting a trade deal by the end of August? Its now almost October and there isn't an end in sight. How come he thought we were close to a deal and now we aren't? There is a complete lack of transparency there with this liberal government.

The tech industry will be fine. There have been record layoffs on the tech industry since 2022. Those lost H1B positions will be filled by well-qualified Americans. In theory, H1-B is supposed to bring in qualified employees with very specialized skills that are difficult to be filled. In practice, employers use it to hire workers at much lower wages and threaten H1-B Visa employees with deportation if they are out of line.
"Sixty percent of H-1B positions certified by the U.S. Department of Labor are assigned wage levels well below the local median wage for the occupation."

I'm not even talking about politics, it's just your utter distain for everything that Canada stands for. And I mean it, if you're defending Trump then you're clearly on that side.
Just leave and start shitposting on r/conservative instead of here. We'll all be happier for it.
And since I know you're going to do everything but, can you please type like a fucking normal human adult and not a 13 year old?

Cheers,

Trump wrote a private email to Pam Bondi and accidentally posted it to his version of twitter
Quote:
Pam: I have reviewed over 30 statements and posts saying that, essentially, “same old story as last time, all talk, no action. Nothing is being done. What about Comey, Adam “Shifty” Schiff, Leticia??? They’re all guilty as hell, but nothing is going to be done.”
Then we almost put in a Democrat supported U.S. Attorney, in Virginia, with a really bad Republican past. A Woke RINO, who was never going to do his job. That’s why two of the worst Dem Senators PUSHED him so hard. He even lied to the media and said he quit, and that we had no case. No, I fired him, and there is a GREAT CASE, and many lawyers, and legal pundits, say so.
Lindsey Halligan is a really good lawyer, and likes you, a lot. We can’t delay any longer, it’s killing our reputation and credibility. They impeached me twice, and indicted me (5 times!), OVER NOTHING. JUSTICE MUST BE SERVED, NOW!!!
"Sixty percent of H-1B positions certified by the U.S. Department of Labor are assigned wage levels well below the local median wage for the occupation."
I'm not so sure about this study from a left-wing think tank. As I was saying, most of the people I know that went down to the US on H1B are in tech, and they were all offered salaries that they felt were in line with the US colleagues. A friend that went into consulting (and worked for Deloitte) initially found out that he was paid noticeable less than his US colleagues, but he was soon able to negotiate for a proper wage because he was so good at what he did.
So based on the observations that I have seen on my own (on a personal level), the below median wage for the job thing seems to occur in 1 case out of 11 o 13? That's a far cry from the 60% that this EPI is saying.
