Can we just ban Kev-o from this thread? |
Can I ask the officers reading this thread to please pull over people driving at night with their lights off/out? It’s crazy out there this time of year. |

"Hmmm, why are multiple people flashing their lights at me? Probably nothing, carry on" Also, 9 times out of 10, it's a Toyota. |
DRLs are probably the most counterproductive safety feature ever put on a car. Here, let's tell everyone they don't have to worry about turning their lights on. But wait, make sure they only operate at 30%. Fuck, we should make sure the taillights stay off too, that will fucking help lots. |
The biggest mistake they made was letting the speedometer light up when your headlights aren't on. In my old Prelude it was very obvious your lights weren't on because everything in the car was pitch black. Most people just assume with today's cars that their lights come on automatically. |
I still don't think DRLs alone are the cause of the problem. It's more the fact that all cars now come with more obscured gauges that cannot be seen with natural light, and are lit up with ignition on, instead of being switched by the actual headlamp switch. So then you get the usual person who feels like they can see enough of the road (and yes theyre almost all Toyotas because Toyota likes to do this 10 volt modulation thing on their low beams for various models, so it's nearly as bright as regular low beams) And now it kind of changedes the problem to become "oh why didn't they have the tail lights come on with the front DRLs in the first place" |
i never really gave it much thought but at some point chevy updated the software on my truck so that i cannot turn off my headlights while the truck is in gear lol. if it's dark enough to trip the light sensor, all the lights come on. if not, the headlights are on, at regular power, not a like 30% or something like most cars, but the tail lights are not. and if it's not dark enough to trigger the sensor, but my wipers are on, all the lights come on as well. i think chevy has it right here. lights are fully automated in a way that makes sense. |

because the dash lights up when you turn on the car, people generally dont think about the headlights and tail lights so they continue driving not knowing they are in stealth mode. For these cars, manufacturers should implement an automatic light system. But if it were up to me, i would just take away their license cuz things like this just makes you a hazard on the road cuz u donno whats going on even with your own car. In addition to this DRL situation, for those who have issues with DRL or high beams, I may be of help as I've fixed this issue myself and is generally a common problem with older cars. mmmmm Prelude blues... all but the clock hehe https://imgur.com/rW4MWeA |

^ the law is changing to include taillights last I read, new cars will come with lit tails when DRLs are active |
I had an 84 Camry with auto-off headlights, when you opened the door and the keys were out of the ignition. Boy, does technology move fast. |

I don't think the change is going to be rear lights as part of DRL's. Its going to be Auto lights as the standard minimum setting. Like there will no longer be an off setting. |

My suggestion would be to either have the cluster lights off OR have the sensor beep at the driver to suggest turn on their headlights I'm the dark (like how they chime you to put on a seatbelt). Most cars these days have a digital multi-info display, have that pop up and alert the driver until they turn the headlights on. |
Friend didn't get a VI but got a ticket for his exhaust on his M3. He does have Remus Sport or something I believe, but the rest of the system is stock. If anything its quieter than the stock muffler lol. |

Why would you rather get a $109 ticket for unnecessary noise plus 3 points? |

Tho I'd be interested to know if my BMW Performance intake would pass a VI. |

Waste of a day for sure. Better than a waste of a day and an inspection that you have no way of getting your money back from. |
