For me no, but for most almost OEM performance cars.

They already are. Dealers probably aren't going to be happy about those $250 inspection fees when this costs them the sale of even one 100k+ M4CS or C63

s300ae 10-20-2018 08:16 PM

I got pulled by DC and issued a box 2 on Oct 2. If I wasnt going to a birthday dinner I would have tried to reason with him but he was pretty set on just giving me a box 2 and taking off with his other bike buddy. Even station wagons arent safe from scrutiny.

MarkyMark 10-20-2018 08:25 PM

I must say, this is a very petty response from the VPD if all this is because of one guy being a prick. You're an officer of the law and your tactics are some school yard bullshit like this. I guess they figure it's better to be feared than respected.

RS group should have a protest infront of the VPD building next week.

Should be a cruise and meet. Everyone meet up outside Vancouver and cruise to the VPD headquarters all going exactly the speed limit. See how many VI's Cain can give.

My daily is stock, and my other car hasn’t seen the road all summer but I’d meet up outside VPD. They may give me a ticket for my bike rack that covers half my plate. Lol

Friend of mine got pulled on Granville st. bridge today for this....

Stock 228i with stock wheels, stock suspension, stock exhaust, stock lights, etc.

Got let off with a warning but the officer claimed that the license plate needs to either be centered or aligned with the back.

BC MVA states that it needs to be on the front, in a horizontal position, and unobstructed. CHECK, CHECK, AND CHECK

The officers here are not only wasting people's time but spreading misinformation.

He'll check in the morning to see if his dash cam caught what the officer said, if so he will be filing complaints for sure. I really don't get how this kind of power can go unchecked, especially when it's being exercised so disproportionately in the past few weeks. And if what people are reporting re:officer's interpretation of the MVA is true, it means that these officers are either incompetent or acting in bad faith.

This is waaaayyy beyond some 18 year old kid being rude online. If that's actually what started this, these officers are not in the right mindset to be in their position. It would show a complete lack of discipline and maturity on their part if that's the case. I would never hold some punk kid to the same standards as sworn officers of the law.

This is getting good :Popcorn

I have a friend who was pulled over for speeding once and was told by the officer that license plate frames aren’t allowed.. I understand if it’s blocking the insurance expiration but if it’s just a regular license plate frame, I don’t see an issue with it really

vantrip 10-21-2018 07:32 AM

People keep saying this will blow over, put your car away until next season etc., whose to say this will not continue next year/summer

So then the only recourse would be to issue a vi as you wouldn't comply with the officer "educating" anyways.

Yes they will need to isssue a VI for my case, I am pointing out like the BMW with lisence plate mounted to the side of the bumper. Or BMW/AMG wheels. There are no need to bully the car community.

mj_39 10-21-2018 08:08 AM

Heading to Olympic Village in a few hours, let’s see how it goes...

Peturbo 10-21-2018 08:14 AM

This reminds me of the story my colleague told me after he went to dispute his distracted driving ticket.
Was driving down the road with the cop following behind him and got pulled over Front plate was on the side like ilvtofus friend. Said he pulled him over cause of that.
Then told him he is getting a ticket for distracted drive. Friends rear windows are tinted quite dark so there is no way for the officer to see at all whether he was on phone or not so that is complete BS.
On court day officer said he pulled him over because of the front plates. Judge repeatedly asked him if the plate was on the front. Officer kept trying to say it was on the side and that's illegal
Judge was not having it. If it's mounted on the front hoizontal, it's legal.
Judge then argued the districted driving ticket with the officer while my colleague just stood there saying nothing the whole time.
Officer was bringing up how he's been on the force for X amount of years trying to validate him claims.
Collegue got off with the ticket in the end without saying a word.
Perhaps this was Cain and now he's giving out VIs cause he knows he doesn't have to fight them.

nexusxv 10-21-2018 09:15 AM

Is it correct, that 95% of VI is VPD job?

Majority, if not all, exotics use the tow hook to mount the front plate because no one wants to drill into the front bumper for obvious reasons. I'll see if I get pulled over in my car when it arrives in a couple weeks because I'll be using a tow hook mount.

bomberR17 10-21-2018 11:44 AM

And you also have cars like the Mitsubishi evo's that have side mounted license plates from factory. You can't really change those.

coneZONE 10-21-2018 12:28 PM

I want to see an 90s Dodge Caravan/Pontiac Sunbird etc pulled over for off-centre license plate. Those are factory offset to one side as well.

If you really want to be technical about plate frames, according to MVAR the license plates must be kept entirely unobstructed. But this is kinda getting off topic. You can't get a vi for license plate. That's absurd
