You could have taken the opportunity to rent the house to international students, profit, and put all that money into a long term t-bill. |

Yeah but I gotta be living in TaCompton. That place is full of Donks !!!
Some of these SHE Donks aren’t half bad though. Not sure how many pounds of meth I need to smoke to blend in with that society.

I mean ever heard of commuting? Americans love sitting in their car all day. You could live in a place like Olympia and be even better off and farther away from your wife.

I talked to quite a few people at the Microsoft event last week that are all living in Tacoma... it's become a suburb of Seattle with $ cuz it's too expensive to live in Bellevue or Mill Creek and traffic is too bad coming to/from Everett.
I think the new Compton is going to be Olympia mentioned by CivicBlues above... I knew a girl from there before and she thought I was a sugar daddy when I took her to Azteca for lunch lolol

Isn't Surrey is to Vancouver so Tacoma is to Seattle?
Wouldn't Olympia be a shittier Victoria then since they're both the capital?

Poor access to healthcare as another reason also comes with a caveat. US healthcare only works if you have coverage from work, or if you have money. As long as you have those, I guess it is better than Canada?
And for Badhobz, how are you gonna survive in Tacoma or even Seattle when there is nothing like Richmond down there?

I can survive just fine by myself. But the problem is spy balloon can’t.
She can’t drive those big highways. She’ll get smooshed.
Plus she’s small and will get stolen by crack heads.
So if I move it’ll be just myself and maybe the chihuahua. One of them. The white one.

I always got the impression that most folks going down to the USA are just doing it temporarily since the pay is better. Grind it out for several years an come back up to Canada years ahead than if you stayed.
Those moving probably always wanted to, but now they found a "reason" to tip them over the edge.
A no brainer when you're younger, but a much more complicated decision when you're in your 30s.
Chances are if you're going down there, it'll be at a company which will have health insurance benefits anyways. Worst case situation, you just drive back up to Canada if you're seriously ill.

Most of my Asian friends who moved south for work don't stay there more than they have to. Many drive back to Vancouver on weekends for their Richmond fix. It's easier now that Bellevue has a T&T, but restaurants still pale in comparison. Some have done the grind and came back already.

The only reason I can think of to move to USA is warmer weather / job / business prospects/ potentially cheaper cost of living depending where it is / higher income potential.
I said to my GF it's no surprise to me like if Toronto and Vancouver are too expensive, where else do you even go in Canada that's palatable climate wise? Calgary is JUST BARELY in that category in my opinion and that's really stretching the idea of palatable quite a bit... so it's far more attractive to head south.
If these people are moving because of politics that's so LOL I don't even know where to start. Good riddance.

Well.. politics gave a direct impact on every aspect you just outlined
The policies in place here have led to skyrocketing housing costs, poor access to healthcare, the inability for companies to retain talent, etc.
So it’s not so far fetched to leave Canada due to the politics when all those other aspects go hand in hand

What I outlined as reasons for moving has been exactly the same for like 50 years man... it's not politics. There's always been better potential opportunities in the USA, it's 400 million people not 40 million. "Brain drain" was a topic in Economics class in Grade 11 when I was in high school, and that was not even in this century!
Did the Liberal party make it colder in Canada? lol

If these people are moving because of politics that's so LOL I don't even know where to start. Good riddance. | Gotta consider the cultural benefits too - car culture, club/bar culture, cheaper plane tickets, variety in cuisine, etc. The US "can" offer a lot of more if you know to seek it out and learn.
Politics wise, I think BC's got it pretty good. The other thing to consider is the direction/strength a country is headed in ... I think the US probably has more upside and less downside than Canada in the next decade or so no matter what happens in the next election on both side of the border

Living on the east coast of the US is a dream for international travel (besides Asia of course)
Europe, Caribbean, virtually anywhere along the eastern seaboard or Midwest in under 6 hours

I’d go to usa in a heartbeat. Seattle is very similar to vancouver and only 2.5hr drive away
1. No state income tax
2. “My healthcare” US companies that sponsor foreigners have gold-plated health insurance plan. Go get an MRI in 2 days instead of a year.
3. “Gonna get shot” Really depends on part of the city or state. Overblown too
4. “Schools suck” Public schools in good suburbs (bellevue, irvine) are good.
5. Go to oregon for no sales tax shopping
My friends who went to the usa originally had the same thoughts, make money and come back. Only one did and thats for family reasons. The US rewards success unlike Canada where they hunt success to make you pay your “fair share”

You see it in banks when you take out even like $5k and the tellers are like... "Whoa money bags stop the presses what you need that for? State a reason?" I used to buy/sell a lot of low dollar value cars and lots of times I'd be depositing anywhere from $5k to $7500 cash and get the wide eyes like whoa whoa whoa wait a hot minute here... like fuck really? You're surprised about 4 figures in a city with $600k 1 bedroom condos?
Meanwhile in USA people are doing well and even poors are like whoa good for you how did you do it maybe I can do the same blah blah blah
Weird ass attitude here.
