I don't know enough specifics of what their problems are or what the solutions might be, but we should always have some form of a public postal delivery. If they can be profitable that's obviously ideal, but some costs to keep it operating should be acceptable as it is a service and the geography of our country places unique demands on that service.

Like westopher mentioned the amount of "brokerage" fees that I would've had to pay private companies for shipping across borders far outweighs anything Canada Post would ever affect my taxes. And it's in all of our best interest to support people who choose to live rurally, otherwise they'll have to move to larger cities even more quickly than they already are which will just increase real estate prices faster.

Or we can choose to not live in the middle ages and digitalize more things. Drivers' licences and health cards could be on your smartphone. Bank mail and bills can all be digitally received. Emails have existed for over a quarter century now.

If you want to avoid the brokerage fees, you can go to a CBSA office and clear the item yourself. UPS and Fedex always give you that option before the item crosses.

SO internally on radio there were some 3rd party company who hired a italian company to try to sort mail.. spent millions and just didn't work well.

CP also spent money on an arm to help move mail / boxes into CP vans... went thru IMPL and then was told it 'didn't' work well and trashed the idea.

I can't confirm but the radio host did get insider into... not sure how much of it is true but i'm nto surprised.

I can't see it as 'wasting' money as I'm sure RFQ and tenders were to try to IMPL then entire time.

Please just have CP end daily delivery and change over to mail boxes.
