Is this some weird offshoot of British colonialist mentality, as there are is some commonality to Nigerians pushing this bullshit as well. | Because the Chinese don’t care if they are accepted by whitey. They don’t want to be around them anyways. Indians are a minority in the GVRD and still want to be accepted by one of the main groups.
The Chinese are a main group now so they don’t give a fuck.

Chinese, especially us Guangdong and other southern bastards for the most part don't want to get involved in politics. Sure you'll have people like Jenny Kwan and Ken Sim, but they're the exception for the most part considering the size of the population. Business trumps politics 9 times 10 culturally speaking. Being an MP is not secure job better to be a doctor, lawyer, enginneer. Maybe it's a product of being descended from traders and pirates far away from the capital in the north.
Whereas look at the number of Indians sitting in Parliament and the BC Legislature. Tons of them even in high echelon corporate roles. I'm sure the call to civic duty is similar in the US as well. Plus the ability to speak English fluently right out of the gate coupled with huge ambitions typical of immigrants and you'll see why Indians gravitate towards politics. There's probably an underlying current of caste-based superiority of wanting or feeling like they need to "lead" the masses. Which feeds a lot of them into the right-wing conservative machine

Every time I hear a thick East Indian accent, i mentally “hang up” on them as the only thing I associate with that accent are scammers, telemarketers and uber drivers. Sad I know, but unfortunately that’s the realities.
Everytime I hear a thick Chinese accent I think of some rich ass fob who probably embezzled money.
Neither stereotypes are good but one is much better socially than the other. Whats a racist whitey gonna do…..?!??
Here’s some more :
Thick eastern European accent : Mob. From a woman? Prostitute
Thick Arabic or middle eastern accent : explodes
Thick Australian accent : yehhh naaaahh inbred hicks

My gf used to get so mad at me when I generalized about selling stuff on marketplace in Richmond, I told her brown guys 99% just waste your time with questions and lowball and “I’ve got cash / pick up now” messages before ghosting you… but they’re all over you like a fat kid on a Smartie if you post something for free, Asian guys either lowball you and eventually settle and buy or say they will buy and ask for a discount when they get there (annoying!) or say they only brought x amount with them, but if you stand your ground they begrudgingly pay and walk away sad, white guys just buy, sometimes attempt a small discount over email but don’t get too sad when you say no or get really excited if you offer up a bit of one.
I moved to Calgary and it’s the exact same fuckin thing. She got mad at me when I brought it up again so I said here let’s go through my marketplace messages I’ll prove it to you. I got about 20 message strings in before she was like “FINE” Hahahahaha
My caveat for brown guys is it’s the Surrey or n00b types not the well educated or well employed dudes with some polish, you can tell right away from how the messages are written which one you’re getting lol

I don’t think tech is the field to be in right now. It’s completely over saturated. Maybe get a red seal certificate for heavy duty mechanic ? The port would gladly pay you 250k a year

Telling the average tech worker to "just get your red seal bro" in 2025 is probably going to be as effective as telling laid off factory workers to "just learn to code bro" in 2005

The hardest part would be getting on as an apprentice somewhere, unions only take guys already in the union so you'll be starting at some place that will pay you nothing and you'll probably have to beg them to sign off your hours when the time comes.

Oh no my fuck you was directed at people who thought this security guard guy who went heavy duty would have been a brown guy. Cuz how many 5 foot Chinese security guards would you employ ? Ps. He doesn’t know kung fu and he’s a total Guangdong hoarder. His locker is full of useless shit that he says he needs for his job. Cuz a random steel cage he found on the docks is very useful for…. Uhhhh …. Hoarder.

The port would gladly pay you 250k a year | Maybe not red seal, but anyone here who owns a home (and that's the majority in this thread) has to have some degree of being able to work with their hands. Whether it's mounting a TV on the wall, caulking a shower tub, changing spark plugs and oil, cutting baseboards and nailing trim, basic drywall repair, assembling furniture - there's a market for these skills. Handymen who are clean, can communicate, and show up on time are in demand.

Years ago I was on a tech leaders panel at SFU Business and there was some question asked about whether you had to be technical to be a product manager and the guy next to me who was a VP that came up the Engineering side confidently said that yes, you needed an Engineering degree to make it (and that those business grads shouldn't be aiming for a job in tech).
Cue me, the Arts grad (Econ/PoliSci) who cut my teeth at Amazon and was running Product for what's now a multi-billion dollar company contradicting him. I enjoyed that exchange but I recognize the arrogance of some STEM leaders then and even now - it's no different than those in the 80s and 90s who made being in Finance the end all and be all - the tables inevitably will turn on who education/career track is king and we should be humble enough not to look down at others.

That makes it a whole lot easier to go back to school.
That same white software guy is likely paying a mortgage, which makes it almost impossible to go without income for 2-4 years to attain a different degree/trade, and still manage a housing arrangement.

I came from a science / comp sci background, and I don't necessarily think STEM people are contemptuously discrediting or even criticizing arts / social science / business people if there is a genuine lack of technical understanding to the products they are promoting / representing. I'm sure we've all been there before -- if you are dealing with someone who is obviously BS-ing their way through, or show little to no technical understand of what is happening with their product while you're trying to get some answers, it becomes frustruating.
When I was younger, I don't particularly think too highly of recent MIS grads because they tend to fall short on the required technical knowledge. And when that happens, I tend to hear a lot of what I'd call absolute BS, poor or mis-understanding. But if they can survive long enough to actually build the ncessary technical knowledge, then it is no longer a problem.
On the other hand, things also don't tend to go very well if the person you are dealing with only has the technical knowledge, but has no sociable skills to allow for proper communication and build trust.
At the end of the day, it is all about whether you know your stuff well enough to be competent at what you are doing. Quote:

What do you think our BA's stand for? Bullshit Artists duh!
That's why you nerds are often managed by some history / English lit major because that retard knows how to convince HR and the higher-ups that he/she has value even though zero technical skills.

Not all tech is bad right now. Mostly just the coders because AI... lol... I do infrastructure and there's still plenty out there. My previous job is still looking for a replacement for me and I've been gone almost 2 years. The people still working there tell me that coders keep applying for the role... lol
Network and Systems Admins still have plenty of options because those roles require hands to build/maintain datacenters. Those jobs won't go away til the robots come.
