^That's kind of gross optics wise.

Private jet isn't a luxury now?

I guess that's an indirect tax break for Bombardier?

Yes you can! They are cheaper than a 911. The only issue is if you skimp on the maintenance you’ll probably end up dead. Half these personal aircraft crashes are due to an engine failing or electronics failing.

The incident rates on these light aircraft is pretty fucking high isn't it? I'm not interested enough in flying to fuck around with one.

I've been to those small airports and everything seems pretty jank, diy, like you do your own safety checks. Like you can just walk in, no security no nothing

Their claim is that the administrative costs of dealing with the luxury tax for yachts and planes is not worth the revenue it brings in. I'm skeptical of the claim considering how even a single sale could net a lot of revenue but the reporting of this cut has been tied to cost cutting programs in CRA. I'd be interested in seeing the nuts and bolts of this one.

How would they track yachts? I'm going to assume the owner could always "purchase" it elsewhere and not in Canada. I'm gonna assume it's nothing like owning a car as you aren't mandated to have insurance and you can totally just have a yacht that's bought and if need be registered in Mexico but parked at the Horseshoe Bay marina all the time.

Same with airplanes.

Good point on that - evasion is super easy for the folks who buy planes and yachts.

The luxury tax and UHT “have proven to be inefficient, costly to administer and challenging for Canadian industries at a time of ongoing economic uncertainty,” said the budget, released Tuesday.

The luxury tax on aircraft and boats would end the day after budget day — Wednesday. “All instances of the tax would cease to be payable after budget day, including the tax on sales, the tax on importations, and the tax on improvements,” the budget said.

Dropping the luxury tax on planes and boats — the tax would still apply to sales of new cars — is projected to have a revenue impact of $135 million over five years, from 2025 to 2030, the document said.

The phrase "flying is safer than driving" only applies to airlines, general aviation like the cessna has the same fatality rate as motorcycles.

So like time honoured tradition, rich have ways to get out of the tax but the average joe saving up for his dream car has to pay the luxury tax. It's unfair at this point and get rid of it all together and not keep taxing cars. I'm surprised the dealers and manufacturers lobbying efforts wasnt enough.

Fire crackers are being used to scare the ostriches which are part of the cull. Supporters of Universal Ostrich are trying to scare them away before CFIA agents round them up .

They need more of the Halloween leftover fire crackers to scare those birds haha:

It's really pathetic to think that not only are the MPs so unhappy that they'll switch sides, but that Jeneroux is so disillusioned with the Conservative party that he'll resign than rather keep in the party.

From the looks of things, the budget would most likely pass as there'll be enough Conservatives that'll break ranks and vote for it.

I don't see any Cons bold enough to vote against party ... NDP already said they would support Libs. No concerns for a Christmas election whatsoever.

Every other party is in a worst situation if it did go to an election.

What a strange thing to protest and make your identity, what about the countless chickens slaughtered everyday? I get the anti-government view of it.

And remember, these people have the same right to vote as you!

The Cons are saying they have put a stop on any further desertion, at least for now, but I don't know how much truth there is to it.

I am actually disappointed that the exposed drama has only been limited to 1.5 MPs -- I'd only count Jeneroux as 1/2 of a deserted MP bcos at least on the surface, he hadn't burned any bridges with the Cons nor PP. In fact, PP still thanked him for his service with his resignation. Based on what d'Entremont has said, the discontent within the Cons should be far bigger than just 1.5 MPs. I would also expect the Liberals have reached out to more than just 2 Conservative MPs to entice them to cross the floor.

It's too bad that there wasn't more dirty laundry getting exposed. It would have made for some interesting drama!
