Not just Vegas but the previous rounds of St. Louis and minny play the similar style where they come at you and take the body. Except Vegas is just built with no holes. It’s hella gruelling compounding with the compressed schedule and then back to back games you can understand that they just don’t have the jump they should since it’s not really “game 7” for them more like “game 17”. Still a pretty good showing and the core people definitely showed up. Good to see demko is showing his potential how he was rated as a better prospect than Marky...Markys just too leaky and his rebound control needs some work... but we need him for next year though only for a reasonable/discount price |

So as it turned out, it wasn't the kid goalie who was gassed, how many periods or mins of shutout hockey? ... it was the forwards with a total of 14 SOG ??!! |

Talent-wise, he’s clearly above Jannik (even this season he matched Jannik’s career best production and did it from the 3rd line without the Sedins). However, in terms of work ethic, conditioning, commitment, defense, forecheck, IQ, etc. he’s clearly not on Jannik’s level. When we drafted Jake, I thought his ceiling was a pre-concussion David Booth (30-30 North-South winger with size and speed), I’m fairly certain I even said as much on here at the time, which is a decent player but not one you want at #6. That’s a support player not a guy you build your team around (at the time, Jake was the second top 10 pick we had after Horvat since Cody Hodgson in 2008 and Horvat hadn’t begun to look like the player he is today. Many, including on here, were lamenting that we didn’t take Domi instead). I still think that’s his ceiling but even that’s going to take more work than he’s currently putting in. Edit: From September 2015 when Jake was still in junior; this was during the rookie camp/rookie tournament Quote:

The Official 2019/2020 Canucks & NHL Thread Thank you to the players and coaching staff for this playoff run. Although the end to the postseason for our Canucks was bittersweet, our team gained valuable playoff experience to be an even better team in the near future. Captain Bo lead the team by example with his play. Petey played with his all world skill and paid the price in front of the opposing goalie’s net. Hughes shows why he is considered a future Norris trophy winner. Markstrom played very well in the regular season and playoffs. He is a workhorse. Demko showed his great talent by becoming a brick wall against Vegas. JT Miller and Toffoli used their playoff experience and veteran leadership to play hard for this team every night. Many players like Motte and Fantenburg sacrificed their bodies by blocking shots throughout the playoffs. -very proud of this team. I cannot to see what is in store in the near future for our Canucks. Go Canucks go!!! Enjoy time with your families and stay safe during this pandemic, boys! The future is bright. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...cd2c32a92d.jpg Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
Was nice to see on their Facebook posts that pretty much 100% of the posts were positive and happy, :feelsgoodman: |

Completely agree. Draft year, I felt he really know what to say even till now. His words doesn’t match his work ethic. Main choices during his draft was for nylander or ehlers. But I think Canucks are still haunted by media and fans saying why we don’t draft local kids blah blah blah. |
Reaves suspended for game 1 of the conference finals Islanders are up 3-0 going into 3rd, and are looking like Knights vs Canucks, dominating the Flyers |
Watching NYI vs Philly rn and the pace is incredibly slow compared to every series the Canucks played this post season. |
So it looks like all three series that had a 3-1 deficit came back for a game 7. But none of the teams that pushed back ended up completing the comeback. |
Which is a fairly rare scenario I believe |
It’s happened 13 times in the past 20 years. |
I don't understand all the hate for Jake on this forum. Here's a guy who's improved his point totals 3 years in a row while only costing the team a paltry 1.25 million which is only 1.5% of total cap space. 1.25M for a guy who scored 18 goals and 36 points is pretty good if you ask me. Why not complain about Myers? 0 points these playoffs. Can't shoot, can't pass, can't defend, doesn't play physical and slow. He had 24 minutes in penalties these playoffs alone! That's TWELVE minor penalties in 10 games! Every time he's on an opposing player I pray he doesn't take a penalty but he usually does. He does all this for 6 million a year. Now I get why Jets fans were so happy we took him off their hands. |
Tyler Myers' skating reminds me of a bus trying to navigate a sharp corner LUL |
I don’t think anyone hates Jake. He’s a likeable guy and I love it that he has the shotgun Jake moniker. That said, I was anticipating/hoping he’d be more of an impact player by now as a #6 pick. Not mad. Kinda disappointed. There’s still time but it’s running out. |
I like Jake, I think he has the potential to be an impact player (a 30-30 player with decent size, stength, and speed is nothing to sneeze at) but it’s frustrating that he doesn’t put the effort in to realizing it. Even now as a 20-20 player, like that’s still solid secondary scoring but you’re not really hoping for a 40-point winger at 6th overall. |
I think people dwell on draft pick too much in general. I'm sure there are better players drafted after him, and I'm sure there have been bigger busts than 5th and above |

JV is doing the right things ON THE ICE.. but i feel like there's the added baggage of having JV on this team.. just my 2c.. i also believe that if stetch and JV take the canucks to arbitration, nothing good will come out of this for the canucks side of things |
Yah he costs 1.2 million now, what you think he’s going to ask for now as an 18 goal scorer lol |
could have popped in 20g if it wasnt for covid |

Looks like NHL entry draft is set for Oct 6 & 7 with UFA period starting on Oct 9th |
So to expand on the JV thing.. When Jake was drafted his overall hockey IQ was questioned from the start, but i think that the Canucks felt pressure to draft a local kid because there was all this talk about the "misses" they had made in the past in not taking them. So maybe against their better judgement they drafted Jake. Now, at 24 in the NHL the majority of the time "you are what you are" Jake has played 279 NHL Games and has been a professional hockey player for 6 years now. While yes, his goal production has been increasing year over year Jake is a VERY opportunistic player. He's also a VERY streaky player, as most goal scorers are. However, he pretty clearly isnt a permanent fixture in the top 6, and when you're not, what you're almost always asked for is consistency and reliability. While he isnt a complete defensive liability, he doesnt use his size very often on the forecheck, and when he does get chances, usually he is on his own, or if he is with somone, such as on odd-man rushes, or rushes down the wing, he almost never creates a play or a scoring chance out of it. This happened numerous times in the Vegas series where he would rush down the boards and not even get the puck deep, it would get jammed up just inside the blue line, turned over, and right back up the ice. As a result of his deficiencies in this area, it seems like Beagle is pretty much stapled along side him to make up for any defensive lapses, which again, hurts offensive production when you have a guy that offers almost nothing in that department on your line. So yea.. i think Jake offers some good, but the bad and the deficiencies in his game outweigh the good, and i think he will never be intelligent enough to be a game changing power forward in the game. At best he is a guy you can bring up and down the lineup, but with our current roster and with potentially adding a Tofolli, etc. I dont know if he is a guy you can keep and pay to be a bottom 6 forward. |
I wonder if Edmonton would do a JV for pool party straight up. |
