Goaltending and the powerplay will be the difference in favor of the Canucks vs Minnesota. If Marky continues his stellar play and our PP units score plenty of goals against the Wild, our team wins the series. https://www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/nhl/...-game-changer/ -from the article: Vancouver’s power play, which soared at the end of the long-ago regular season to No. 4 in the National Hockey League, has the potential to be a difference-maker against the Wild, whose penalty killing was 25th. The Canucks’ top unit, which features forwards Elias Pettersson, J.T. Miller, Bo Horvat and Tyler Toffoli with blue-line quarterback Quinn Hughes, hasn’t changed since the league shut down in March. But on Friday, Green also rolled out an alternative unit with Brock Boeser on his off-wing instead of Miller, and Antoine Roussel in the bumper spot in place of Horvat. Interestingly, the second unit featured Micheal Ferland, whose last NHL game in a season devastated by a concussion was in December. The winger has been one of the surprises of camp. |

Bit disappointed to see Lind left off he had a great last few scrimmages... but I guess having 0 NHL games at this point is not a positive attribute (though I am surprised 3 of our defencemen have 0 NHL games between them!) |

I hope we don’t have both Beagle and Sutter in the lineup at any time going forward, we don’t need 2 otherwise useless faceoff winning guys out there... and of the 2 I would pick Beagle to stay in, at least he forechecks hard |
In keeping with RS tradition Quote:

Most of the Canucks looked rusty af. To be expected in what was essentially a pre-season game. Hopefully Virtanen gets a look next game. |
Clear reality check to play a team that has actual systems and experience for the playoffs, vs a team that has the talent but no systems or experience. They can do damage and have potential. Dynamics of this is far different from a traditional playoff series. With a long layoff, young, fresh legs may be more impactful than grizzled veteran experience that has slogged through 82 games with no break. |
Hellebuyck looked great. Canucks controlled most of the first period and just couldn’t beat him. I was wondering who would become an answer in future Canucks trivia games... turns out it’s Roussel. |
Hansen and Jovanovski will join sportsnet coverage of playoffs |
Seems like Jake may be the odd man out to start. I had an acquaintance who worked along side Trevor linden in his gym ventures and he said that TL was against drafting JV because people within the organization thought he was too dumb to be a successful NHLer. All the misteps he’s made both publicly and privately kinda reinforce that. Seems like he might have been checked out when the pandemic hit and wasn’t ready to get back into it. Watching last nights game I’m a little worried that we may get stuck in one of those goal scoring funks and it will be over before it begins if The Wild can score some goals. Funny how you kinda forget the earlier season but we had those stretches where goals were going in, then those others where we couldn’t buy a goal. Not much consistency |
