i do think low 30s USD pre-tax is a steal given the pretty coin that went into R&D...i would think most mfg are losing money building homologations

50k for a Yaris definitely blows my mind but yeah when you compare it to everything else, and then factor in what it comes with it's a steal.

Apparently the next gen 86/BRZ is getting more power, which I would imagine will drop the value of the current ones even more. I've never driven one but I like the look of them, I just don't have the time to get good at handling RWD on loose surfaces lol.

Not the GR Yaris, but apparently Toyota confirms the GR Corolla hatchback for 2022. Not gonna take them seriously until it happens.

Based on the article, I don't think this can compete anywhere near the up and coming Civic Type R. Closest is maybe a GTI.

twitchyzero 05-11-2020 06:56 PM

in before only wheels and an exhaust
they already come in 6MT so needs AWD to be worthwhile

then again i hope it stays NA or have PHEV to differentiate from GR86

TjAlmeida 05-11-2020 07:46 PM

One link said it expects to compete with the civic si, GTI/GLI. Kinda meh.

68style 05-11-2020 08:14 PM

Toyota USA, unfortunately, has a long history of only selling dress-up kits for their cars.

The only real performance mod I can remember TRD selling is the abhorrently expensive supercharger for their V6 line.

bcrdukes 05-12-2020 10:33 AM

For the Camry and Tacoma, if I recall correctly. I think the most exciting TRD parts for most Toyotas these days is the air intake and maybe oil filler cap hahaha

68style 05-12-2020 10:44 AM

Don’t forget OG Revscene user TRD3000GT Big Benny had a supercharger on his Solara!!! Hahaha then he showed up at autocross with a S60R on the reg to remind everyone what understeer was and how awful it looks on a racetrack

bcrdukes 05-12-2020 11:54 AM

oh yes that's right! :lol now that's a household name I haven't seen in forever

Edit:

wow

On the Matrix if you bought any TRD accessory they popped the badge off and put on a TRD one, regardless of the original trim level. Trying to buy a used one is a gongshow because you see it advertised and badged as TRD because they got a spoiler or muffler but you look at the rest of it and it's a base model with no pillar trim and manual windows.

best toyota top gear has ever reviewed and gave it perfect score

Quote:

Top Gear has previously awarded the 10/10 rating to just five cars before it; the ‘Holy Trinity’ (Porsche 918, Ferrari LaFerrari & McLaren P1), the Ferrari 250 and the McLaren 675LT. That’s one hell of a hall of fame to be in.

was thinking how much it's in the spirit of the ITR but went even more berserk

spot welds, only a few parts interchangeable with the economy platform, from the LFA/old Supra plant

we need more projects like this and the upcoming mid-engine Hyundai N

i wonder if it'll heat soak rather quickly though

white rocket 11-15-2020 02:42 PM

All of the articles that I have stumbled upon say it won’t hit our shores. Perhaps a GR Corolla or CHR variant though. Meh.

I love everything about this car and would feel happy throwing $50k to get it, if it was available.

AzNightmare 11-15-2020 10:38 PM

Subcompact is dead in North America.

Maybe a longshot for a GR Corolla... but GR CHR will be the most likely for consideration if so.

Personally, I stay away from any performance SUV/crossover with a 20 ft pole, but if that's what consumers are buying these days... then it's what it is, and I can't blame manufacturers for chasing profits.

All the good ones are gonna cost a fortune, and the others will be beat to shit..... Not sure if want.

they're rallye toyotas

would be a shame if they aren't a bit driven

True. But if I was shelling out top tier coin for one I'd want it as clean as possible, and not one that was rallied.

underscore 11-17-2020 10:13 PM

I bought a neglected Toyota rally homologation edition car once already. It's not for the faint of heart (or wallet), but it is a nice excuse to get fresh everything and set the car up exactly how you want it.

Akinari 11-19-2020 08:06 PM

I for one wouldn't mind a GR C-HR. I quite like how the GR Sport ones look. It's a shame we don't get them here.

They're all on TNGA, frankly the chassis dynamics all feel more or less the same lol. Having test driven a C-HR, I can say that with a good suspension setup and a nice set of tires, it would be quite fun to drive. The CVT isn't horrible either, Toyota actually does a great job with them.
