I'm with you... I don't need high end Japanese food, but when it's raw, I want it to be handled properly and I don't trust Costco with that. Not worth getting sick over!

I'll stick to my Japanese owned & operated places for sushi/sashimi. :)

Raw is simple. Freeze below 18C for a period of time to kill all bacteria/ parasites and then cut into reasonable looking strips.

If I had a fridge capable of doing -18 I’d be making my own fish rice ball

Hondaracer 09-17-2024 05:24 PM

I’d probably trust Costco food safe practices and freshness over Osaka sushi that sees 8 customers over 3 days as well lol

snowball 09-17-2024 06:44 PM

I have definitely paid more money for shittier sushi at a real restaurant.

Costco DT has cali rolls for $9.99 in their food court. I can't see myself doing that.

red kryptonite 09-17-2024 09:14 PM

i can see the sashimi and rolls being ok, but the nigiri rice ball must be so cold and hard

Had my dinner at 7PM, my platter was made at 8AM according to the sticker. Rice was still soft and even. Maybe I got lucky, lots of earlier reviewers say they got hard rice, then again, maybe they're putting more care into it now that there's less hype.

If it's the same Cali roll sitting in the back of the store with the rest of the sushi, it's real crab meat

What ?! It’s the same as eating any fast food. Yeah you can go higher end but whatever. Food is food. Fish is fish.

Don’t buy into that expensive Japanese shit. Sushi takes the least amount of work in the world. They love to play up how it’s an art and blah blah blah. It’s literally raw fish. Ball of rice with vinegar.

It’s pretty damn hard to fuck that up

Fast food isn't raw.

I wouldn't equate that as being the same :lol

But let's go with that.

If I was gonna eat a greasy ass burger, I'd rather blow those calories on a burger from Five Guys as opposed to one of those microwavable horse meat ones you can grab from 7-11.

Even in restaurant California rolls the imitation crab is not real crab meat lol. It's made of random fish and other binders and fillers.

yray 09-18-2024 11:05 AM

9.99 is not bad as fujiyas cali roll is now 4.00+?

MG1 09-18-2024 11:11 AM

Sounds like a lot of people comment without even seeing the stuff. How it’s made, what’s inside, who’s making it, etc. Basing their comments from who knows where.

Kind of like Cheeto

‘cause Nespresso is just hot water running through instant coffee, jbol.

Except, it’s low income housing. Butt, $1.50 hot dogs, morning, noon, and night, jbol.

Was out for a walk in SF and ran into a Costco and the booze sure is cheap down there. $54USD for 1.75L of Woodford Reserve vs $115CAD here.

$4.99 for Kirkland Signature Pinot Grigio too.

Costco apartment would be my ideal bachelor pad. I’d be so broke.

All my sluts would be adorned in Costco swag

Badhobz 09-24-2024 10:37 AM

Downtown costco always has these interesting food items that no other costco has.

They have schnitzel today!!! i got a pack to try tonight

https://i.postimg.cc/Kv7w8qKd/IMG-2728.jpg
Tried their real crab (blue crab) california rolls today. It wasnt bad, although i probably would just stick to their regular nigiri or maki sushi

Good! its not packaged today because i got there at 10am and they were still making it in the back. I ate it 30 minutes ago after driving back to work.

I rather like it. Plenty of leftovers for tonight.

Made my old lady secretary quite jealous

Hondaracer 09-24-2024 11:13 AM

Will have to go downtown next time and try it out

Badhobz 09-24-2024 11:23 AM

im looking forward to air frying the schnitzel. Should be quite good eating if it ISNT TOO SALTY ... but then again, even in Germany, it was salty as hell.

GLOW 09-24-2024 11:26 AM

$20 for 3x california rolls doesn't seem like a good deal at all :considered:
maybe i'm a cheap ass...

yeah, i'm def a cheap ass

Badhobz 09-24-2024 11:28 AM

but but but if you read the ingredients its REAL CRAB MEAT. not imitation glow meat. And they mixed it with cream cheese so its quite decadent.

Hondaracer 09-24-2024 11:29 AM

well like go anywhere to an actual sushi restaurant

What’s a Cali roll? Minimum $6 plus tax? And tip if you’re eating in for fake crab

It’s just the typical Costco model, slightly higher price for likely better quality and higher quantity
