I tried our local "Detroit-Style" pizza here and wasn't impressed. Too expensive, too oily, and bread-y

Any other suggestions?

The second one the “big nick” is 10/10

Badhobz 09-27-2024 09:25 AM

grandma slice!? eyyyyy forgettttabbouttt itttt

i grew up with Italians okay. REAL FUCKING ITALIANS along commercial st. before they all scampered away to north Burnaby. Thats where I developed my love of tank tops and pizza. EYYYY OOOooo, take it easy

CivicBlues 09-27-2024 10:00 AM

lol I've never met a Burnaby Italian that talks like that. I asked one straight up, they told me that's a NY/NJ stereotype

IT'z Italian American Dizcimination I tell ya

Badhobz 09-27-2024 10:49 AM

Pssshhh if you don’t embrace your stereotype you’re missing out on a lot of fun.

I've tried Peppino's in Detroit and had the exact same two pizzas Hondaracer shared.

I found it to be a very heavy and loaded pizza. Would I consider it 10/10? Nope.

Hondaracer 09-27-2024 01:19 PM

Sounds like a personal problem bro

I’m assuming you mean Vancouver when you said Detroit? Lol

sonick 09-27-2024 01:19 PM

Dunno how authentic it is and it is def overpriced but the detroit style pies at Rewind Brewery are delicious.

Hondaracer 09-27-2024 01:23 PM

Yea so I’ve had rewind as well and it’s pretty good but those peppino ones are a next level up for sure

For a brewery though they are very good

For me, Greek style done well always seems to have the right balance, I think these two are from Neighbours (now johnnys I think?) on.. Cambie or Granville? Can’t remember

Not to be confused with “best neighbours” who also do a good pie lol

CivicBlues 09-27-2024 02:14 PM

Yeah I think it's just a thin crust vs thick crust preference.

Hondaracer 09-27-2024 02:39 PM

Yea I think it basically comes down to that

Spent 4 days in Naples eating almost nothing but pizza and while obviously they have amazing ingredients and there were some technically 10/10 pizzas, neopolitan will never be my favorite.

Places locally like via Tevere etc. I can take or leave, would never seek them out. Honestly I’d rather have pizza garden

Failed myself as I didn't realize you were talking about Peppino's in Vancouver. :failed:

Pizza garden is good for a quick take out joint bit i always find their crust way too chewy. After one slice my jaw hurts

I agree, something nostalgic about that greasy ass crust.

You eat that thing and about an hour or so later you're peeing out your asshole. Then you're sitting on the toilet asking yourself if it was worth it.

It was.

Pizza Hut does that to you?

hud 91gt 09-27-2024 06:19 PM

I had neighbours fairly recently. Wasn’t totally thrilled (Commercial). But Greek style is the best feel good pizza forbsure

Hit or miss, but generally yes. It's the oil, and the radioactive cheese they use. I have IBS so anything really oily can give me fits.

That's why I'll only have Pizza Hut once or twice a year.

I'll finish a whole medium, and in a few hours my body will reject the whole thing and shit it out :lol

If we're talking pizza, Wild Flour is Burnaby is really good, sourdough crust pizza.

Viva Sue Pizza in Burnaby is another one I'll go to once a year for that nostalgic greasy/cheesy mess (reminds me of elementary school).

You da man! All those trips to the washroom in the quest for culinary perfection.......... the sacrifices.

Nuff said.

We all appreciate it.

mikemhg 09-29-2024 01:31 PM

^:lol

I love food too much, I'll sacrifice a few hours of pain for culinary heaven.

A lesson to anyone with IBS, don't date a Filipina. Everything they cook is somehow doused in oil or deep fried entirely. She'd find a way to deep fry steamed vegetables.

Her cooking is delicious, but while I'm dying later on in the night, she's sitting there happy as a pig in shit.

I try to keep up with her when we go out and eat bullshit but to my own demise. Them flips have some bulletproof stomachs :lol

Badhobz 09-29-2024 01:38 PM

That’s how you stay so cut and slim. I get it now. It’s the ibs!!! If I had ibs I’d just shit out all the oil and never absorb it into my fat corpse.

Woe is me… I absorb everything.
