Not enough. You have to put in race gas with 100+ octane or it will knock and destroy the engine.

bump.

do we know when chevron officially switches from winter to summer blend?

i have logs going back to February when i was initally data logging for my 91/91wmi/94/94wmi tunes. everything was great and since then i even had revisions done.

recently on my straight 94 tune ive noticed a little hesitation (seems to go away with wmi) so i did some datalogging, and my car is running significantly less timing and is starting to see knock (can post datalog screen shots). i had low fuel yesterday afternoon, thought maybe that was the cause. filled up last night and on the way home still had timing being pulled etc

94 from 5 and bridgeport chevron. not happy about this at all

Given how we are smack in the middle of June now, I can't see any reason why the gas stations might still be selling winter blends.

The "problem" with corn juice is, unless the container is sealed, it'll attract moisture over time. It can't be good to keep an unsealed container of corn juice around, can it?

There's always a chance of a bad tank too, I've had a couple from Chevron over the years and my car isn't modern enough to be very forgiving about that.

Thats what I’m assuming. So comparing my last tank to what I put in last night, I have lost almost 10° of timing at the top end and had a tonne of knock. Back to back logs but with wmi on I went back to aggressive timing and no knock.

Damn chevron

10 degree? Holy crap!

RacingGreed posted something on their instagram lately about some new fuel testing... tests they did recently. I'm curious to see what they may have found out that is new?

So it's not just me. I was putting Chev 94 in the M3 and I was getting a lot of hesitation.

Just put in some Shell 91 to see how things are.

To entertain you guys I’ll toss in a half tank of shell 91, and do some logs on my 91/94 maps which were based around chevron 94. But historically my ecoboosts have never liked shell

BMW M recommends Shell V Power

I didn't notice a different in my Mazda before, this is the first time where it's noticeable.

I use shell 91 and Chev 94 interchangeably. My car seems to get the best milage on shell 91. e30 runs a little better on chev 94. E36 prefers shell 91. I may be completely full of shit, it just seems that way. Esso and petro Canada 91 gets about 50KM less to a tank in the e36. E30 I don't know cause the gas gauge is a bit fucky so I just throw 20-30L in the tank at a time when its below empty lol.

+1

When I was running the E36, the car performed better* and mileage was often better than compared to Chevron (mildly) but better than Esso and Petro Canada, which has never worked well for any of my cars.

I ran Esso here for a while since moving to Toronto because they were everywhere / convenient but since switching to Shell, mileage is far better and consistent. I could not get consistent results with Petro Canada, and Esso was hit and miss.

I recently got a tune on the Boxster and after a few tanks of Shell vs. Esso 91, mileage and acceleration is better on Shell. Esso has been a mixed bag. I don't think I'll ever fill up with Petro Canada here.

*Better being consistent results with mileage and butt dyno feel.

I'm giving Chevron 94 a shot and seeing if there's a mileage difference. The GTI seems to like 94 based on butt dyno, Shell 91 is okay, but Costco 91 seems to get far less to a tank than Shell despite a similar feel.

So many times I see a good deal on gas at Costco, and I regret getting it every time as it runs like it's on 3 cylinders. No bueno for me.

Can anyone accurately tell their mileage tho? For myself my driving types and styles range so much there’s no way I’d compare….‘sometimes I’m in a hurry so I’m hard on it, sometimes im chugging around Richmond other times blasting down the highway…

Even when I drove to work every day I’d say my driving, uhm, “intensity” varied greatly haha

I'm pretty consistent with my driving style and commute route when I was going to the primary campus I work out of. Can't really go fast and furious in a Corolla iM.

My driving style = Slow and Asian. Far right lane for life.

I couldn’t give a shit about mileage. I just want the best and most consistent performance I can get with the most power

I found with both my Celica GTFour and my diesel Grand Cherokee I got the same mileage giving it the beans everywhere as I did puttering around. In the Prelude though I did notice better mileage with Esso 91 than with anyone else's.

I don’t even look at the price at all, not like I have a choice just swipe the card fill up and drive off

I did notice my MR2 likes the Chevron just after the Oak St bridge.

I just switched over to Chevron 94 from Shell 91, I think I'll be going back to Shell 91 on the next fill up; the car's just louder for some reason when I use Chevron.

Try to go back to the same station and give it another tank or two to see if you notice a difference.

For me using Chevron 94, it feels like the boost comes on a little harder and seems to lug a lot less when DSG is in auto and going uphill. Could be placebo, but it's rather noticeable.

The difference could matter more when I install my JB1
