Which wheel is that on the far left? :suspicious:

RevYouUp 01-11-2022 04:22 PM

Picked up this 2000 Sir over the weekend for $5k, I probably overpaid but the market is pretty dry for older Hondas. It’s rebuilt status and has sick wheels.

The ICBC vehicle report didn’t tell me much

What are those track days like? Pay $400, drive 1500km for 1 hr of driving?

Not sure how much this past week was but the last few i went to it was $80 and a ~10 hour round trip for 30 mins of seat time. Seems like a lot of driving for little seat time but not many places to drive on a sheet of ice in a competition like setting. I felt it was worth it. The drive up was sketchy but a good podcast list, energy drinks, and snacks made it tolerable

68style 01-12-2022 07:33 PM

It’s like any autocross really… it’s kind of a social thing too and in this case just an experience… for me I never drove in ice before so it’s not just about seat time.

Anyone got recommendations for wheel refinishing?
I've just picked up a AP2V1s with dinged up clear coat and some curb rash.

I heard Green's can do them for $160 cash deal?

68style 01-13-2022 06:46 PM

$160?? I dunno about that… they usually want 3 bills a wheel

smoothie. 01-13-2022 08:04 PM

some oe wheels are hard to refinish cheap, unless you're ok to paint only, vs paint and diamond cut + clear.

SpeedStars 01-13-2022 10:00 PM

Yea greens is like 250-300 for a repaint on curb rash. AlloyWheelRepair in Richmond is a bit cheaper but you get what you pay for.

Two weeks ago I was looking at old 92-95 civics on CL for the first time in years, there was ONE for sale in all of gvrd. 7 years ago there would be 50-80 for sale at one time

Market sure is wack

In those seven years, most were probably written off due to theft or collision. Or just rust.

The average buyer of a 30-year-old Honda is probably trying to make it into a wannabe Kanjo racer, and anyone with a decent shell is just going to keep it in their garage because they can, and have likely had it forever.

I high-fived thin air after reading this. Lol!!

I had my stock ISF wheels refinished at Green's recently and they charged me $1,400 plus taxes. 10/10 job, they took my whole car, dismounted and remounted the tires, and it's a black hyper chrome finish which typically costs more. Back in 2014-2017 they did a few sets of Volk 16 inch wheels with me dropping off just the wheels for refinishing and those were $575 plus taxes and paying with a credit card (not a cash job). Prices have certainly gone up.

I used Green's once and wouldn't recommend. Expensive, took longer than expected, colour match and prep were pretty bad so they had to redo it.

I highly recommend Shinez out in Abbotsford. $175 a wheel for complete refinish for these - came out near perfect (says a lot as I'm picky af) and he even did a brushed finish on the lip. And he finished them quicker than he quoted - unheard of these days.
