For all the losses we've been watching Russia take, it's only been about 10% of the forces they sent in. It's inevitable that they'll overwhelm and take the country. At an insanely high cost of course - literally ruining their own country - but it will happen without NATO stepping in, or someone overthrowing the villain (it's surreal to use that term literally). And then they have to try to occupy which will lead to even more casualties

He’s been back on Z for the last year. His contract was coming to an end, and I’m assuming wasn’t offered what he wanted. According to the Kremlin, Putin laid out terms for ending the war. For ending hostilities, Moscow has demanded that:

* Ukraine drop its bid to join NATO and adopt a neutral status.
* Acknowledge the Russian sovereignty over Crimea, which it annexed from Ukraine in 2014.
* Recognize the independence of separatist regions in the country's east.
* Agree to demilitarize.

So the next time he invades it would be a lot easier? That's not going to happen.

What is the alternative? If the war continues ... effectively, Ukraine will demilitarize by force and lose a lot more.

Why the hell would Ukraine agree? Russia has shown over and over their word doesn't mean shit.

Imagine your neighbour took over your backyard a year ago, and now he's in your house stealing your shit. It’s really sad, but Ukraine is screwed… they can’t agree to those terms, but they can’t not agree either… Putin is going to do whatever it takes to get what he wants.

At a practical level, the first 3 of Russia's demands are already a done deal, or came very close to becoming a done deal.

Before the actual war broke out, news reports were indicating that Zelensky was ready to drop Ukraine's NATO application as an incentive to resolve the war threat diplomatically.

Crimea is already under Russian control.

Donbas and Luhansk were already very pro-Russia, and with the way things are now, as long as Russia doesn't fall apart, it would be very difficult for these two regions to willingly return to become part of Ukraine.

So the sticking point is really the final demand -- demilitarize. Ukraine already got burned once when they gave up their nukes. But at least last time there was UK, US, and France signing the deal. This time they'd literally need to sign a deal with the Devil himself, and at gunpoint no less.

They've literally said they're not giving up, and the entire country has shown that. Groups of citizens standing in front of military vehicles telling them to fuck off, is pretty powerful.

Ukraine, and Zelensky, are doing everything right at this moment, given their fucked up circumstances. There is news that Putin expected to roll through Ukraine in 5 days, and is livid that it wasn't a walk in the park. There are reports that he put FSB honchos under house arrest, blaming them for his failures. Kinda what happens when you surround yourself with yes-men.
