Somehow, I knew this thread would have turned this way. Either 'the Queen is symbol of colonialism' ... or, 'she's the best monarch we've had in history'.

Did the Queen ever speak out against any atrocities going on around the world? Apartheid? African Genocides? Indigenous matters in Canada or Australia? Uighur Genocide? Rhoingya genocide? Any genocide? The UK joining in the Iraq invasions?
Or did she just keep her mouth shut like the UK govt expected her to?
I don't understand the love for her, since well, she didnt do anything except stand around n smile (as she was expected to do) but RiP, I thought she would outlive Charles
Edit: she represented the UK and all it upholds, so to say people should disassociate her from Colonialism (the essence of the UK) isnt fair, but in doing so we have to look at the person and what she did, but all she did was stand around and wave as atrocities occurred before her

Indians have a long seated hatred of the british for all the years of exploitations during their colonial rule.
Now replace Indians with south africans, jamaicans, chinese, and pretty much all the indigenous people under British colonial rule and you got generations of people ready to piss on this old lady's grave.
but that being said, the past is the past. we cant harbor ancient grudges and bring them into our daily lives. it doesnt make any sense.
It's all relative... I just know I grew up here and I've been to England 5 times, have some relatives there, and the best, most loving, open-minded, caring and endearing / inspirational people I've ever known in my life were devout royalists.
There was even a point in my life when I was angry at the world that, amongst other things, I was actively shouting to end the monarchy, that it's such trash and a waste of time and has no place in today's world... but then I saw how much it inspires some people and how just a speech from her can literally calm an entire nation and I could understand that sometimes tradition and figureheads are of vital importance to both identity and the social fabric.
I think the Pope is a waste of time too, but I'm not religious so why would I understand? Better to just keep my opinion to myself. I have also never been to India, nor did I grow up there, so I can never really understand that sentiment either though I can obviously understand how that time in history was cruel and unfair to pretty much everywhere in the world India included.
I guess she could have said more, but then I'm sure she would have been criticized for not doing enough no matter what she said or did.
Nobody has a time machine to go back and undo what was done. She did a hell of a lot more in her life than I (or anyone on here for that matter) ever did or ever will do, she didn't just stand around waving her hand like someone said above -- need to take some time to get educated if that's what anyone thinks.
There's a whole hell of a lot more wrong in the world today that's more important than the royal family, which, let's face it, is still around because they make a lot of money for the country. It's quite far down the list of things that need "fixing" I think... and even less relevant now with her gone.
Her family colonized the country of my parents birth killing over 35 million. The rail roads in India where built so they could export everything they stole.
Fuck this bitch and her family. I hope she rots in hell.
Im with manic, people need to stop circlejerking celebrities that are famous for being famous

this is unreasonable though manic. did she do all this crap to you or your family directly? or it that the sins of her ancestors. How long can we hold this grudge for?
this is a HUGE problem one of the biggest cause of social divide. Looks at the whole sunni-shia divide or the chinese circle jerking around the whole japanese wwii stuff, or the jews and the holocaust. yeah all these are terrible events, but at some point we gotta move on and see that the people who perpetuated these crimes are long dead and their decedents cannot be blamed for the actions of the past.
We can all give Manic! the W or whatever on this one for winning the thread and move on. I've never seen him shit on Churchill, who took a much more direct role in harming the Indian people, but the Queen who died is the target of his ire and we can all see how impassioned he is. Lets pull the $20s out of our wallet this evening and take a big steaming shit on them.
In any case, the British "Empire" transitioned into a Commonwealth of Nations during her life and was emboldened during her reign. The colonies which once were became independent nations who are strategic partners. Rather than continue the cruelty shown by monarchs like Leopold and Alfonso, she took the role of the crown and shaped into a moderate position that existed along side elected government, existing in the spirit of that which the Magna Carta was meant to mean.
The Monarchy continued only because of her popularity during a time of massive social change and I honestly believe we will see the UK or Canada turn into a Republic during our lifetimes because everyone who comes after her will fail to garner the respect for the Crown she had been able to maintain... even through the UK economic downturn in the 70s, and The Troubles in Ireland, and the UK's diminishing power following the Suez Crisis.
i have a friend whose parents are first cousins, hes persian and apparently the practice is not taboo in iran. he's also one of the most intelligent people i know in many regards

Don't get me started on Churchill.

We literally have people in Canada and the USA marching with Nazi flags and you want Jews to forget?
I will forget as soon as Christians forget about some guy dying 5000 years ago supposedly for my sins. But really they can start buy returning many of the things they stole. Looks like the crown holding the kohinoor diamond that was stolen from India will be going to Camilla who is now queen from what I understand.

I can see why a lot of people hate the monarchy (and the pope too since he was mentioned). Sure they didn't personally do all the horrible things, but they're the figurehead of the legacy of a lot of horrible things so you can't just sit there and take all the benefits of that without taking some flack for what gave it to you.
And I mean yeah the royal family technically brings in more than they cost, but that's only because of all the shit their family stole in the past. Without them the country would still make that much but without any cost.

She might be the only one who doesn't need a license, but a lot of people in Britain around her age who had licenses never took a driving test. They didn't have time for them during WWII, so after it ended if you were over driving age and said you had been driving a farm truck or tractor for more than 6 months they just gave you a license lol.

Swearing an oath to the Queen a violation of religious freedoms, prospective lawyer says in lawsuit
A prospective lawyer in Edmonton is suing the provincial government and Law Society of Alberta for requiring him to swear an oath to the Queen to practise law, arguing that the rule violates his religious freedoms as a Sikh.

unlike manic, his parents probably arent as salty about the whole thing. im pretty sure if they were as salty as manic, they wouldn't have moved to a England. They did it so their kids could have a better life than back home.
colonalism sucks, yah yah, whatever, our shit aint so great right now either as poor Evofire wanna kill himself cuz central bank upped the rates. every system sucks and every system has its merits.
She did her duty. She never asked to be queen. There has to be some level of respect for that.
It's always easy to cast stones.
She could have always resigned and gotten a job. Did she really need all those houses and land?

Many immigrants did things they did not want to do just to put food on the table. Many Sikhs cut there hair just to get a job.
People all over the world are celebrating her death.
Much of the world has reacted in sadness to the passing of Queen Elizabeth II but there are some people who are, in fact, celebrating.
People in countries formerly controlled by Britain, such as India, Ireland, Australia and Nigeria, were quick to point out the monarchy's role in the subjugation of their countries.

We're talking about the people who came, had to cowardly rely on the political instability of our nation and espionage to conquer us since they were unable to fight like real men (look at Battle of Challianwala and Battle of Ramnagar).
We were living perfectly good lives, but they had this delusion, this egoistic delusion that them governing us would somehow make us better, when the fact is
* We had higher literacy rates than them, Ranjit Singh's rule was reported to have seen rates of 70% for both men and women, England in 1840 had 50% for women and 67% for men
* We were in some ways more technologically advanced, with higher grade artillery in our military than they had
* We had abolished the death penalty, something they didn't accomplish until 1964
* We've been not only allowing, but encouraging women in the army since the time of Guru Gobind Singh Ji (1666-1708), they only made it legal in 1950.
* We've been anti-slavery since Guru Nanak Dev Ji's time (1469-1539), something they only managed to do in 1807
But all of these were lost because of their cowardly exploitation and dishonorable violation of the Treaty of Amritsar that they signed with Ranjit Singh.
* Our literacy rates decreased
* We had to live under the death penalty
* They tried to auction off the Darbar Sahib
* Kidnapped Duleep Singh
* Forcibly changed our religion
* Helped plan Operation Blue Star.
