Whoever is in charge of finances, if ads etc. are not paying the bills let us know and I’m sure we can get together enough to cover it

^ What Honda said

I wonder whether the "sponsors" still even pay their annual dues.

twitchyzero 12-30-2023 11:54 AM

I do not believe they are directly a sponsor, but I will let others chime in on this one.

I am pretty sure they are. I remember a post about it.

Best part of this place is that it still feels like the "old internet" from the late 90's, and 2000s. It's hard to describe, but when forums were still a thing, and conversation wasn't distilled down to memes and flame wars like Reddit and TY Comment sections nowadays, with anonymous heads spewing crap, bots, etc.

Forums and the like have vastly died off on the internet nowadays, it's great this place still exists.

I still prefer this form of discussion over anything else that’s come a long. But really the only two remaining forums like this I’m on are here and AVSforum, which is mainly an older user base as well.

While I find Reddit to be useful for some things, I feel like the way it’s organized is for autists with the attention span of a peanut

There's quite a few car forums around still. Bimmer forums are still a similar format, and I think head-fi is similar as well. But probably as like you said it's all due to a older audience.

Reddit is the same as Facebook/Instagram/etc in that the format isn't intended for any sort of longevity. You see it once and then it's gone forever. If you dig it up later and comment nobody else sees it. Here you could go and comment on the oldest thread here and bring it back to the top.

!Aznboi128 12-30-2023 04:52 PM

It's always good to bring back old threads and read some history.

lol, I remember one time I disagreed with some guy's comment on IG, but I responded a day later. And the guy asked me why am I still going on about it? it was so yesterday.

Never knew IG was that fast paced...

vitaminG 12-30-2023 05:43 PM

I haven't been in here in years and this is the first thread I read

Vege 12-31-2023 12:44 PM

I am going to gift my account to my kids once they are old enough. They don't even know what a message board is lol.

spoon.ek9 12-31-2023 08:57 PM

I check RS nearly every single day, super grateful it's still around. I admit, there was a few years in between where I sort of stepped away but eventually I came back and haven't stopped since that brief hiatus. FB is horrible for finding information from previous posts. People these days do have the attention span of a gnat but social media is all designed to force users into constantly creating new content/posts. Here we can actually just shoot the shit and have actual discussions/debates. Ironically, it's a vastly superior way for people to communicate but the new gen just dgaf.

Yeah, Facebook isn't really for discussion/debates. It moves fast and things get buried. If you're in any specific car groups, you'll end up seeing the same new people asking questions that have been answered a million times. No body knows there's actually a search function that exists.

But I personally do find Facebook useful in it's own ways too. I've seen people stranded somewhere and ask for help/troubleshoot on the spot, and he's getting responses within a few minutes. I guess being a fast paced platform does have it's benefits. But it definitely acts more like a chat room.

I'm not in any other forums, so likewise, I'm glad RS still exists. At one point when there was more traffic, it was pretty much my go to for all news. lol

You mean like your nephew is stranded in Mexico and needs you to contact him and send some $$ to help him come home?

FB and Messenger is a cesspool for scams.

donk. 01-01-2024 07:37 AM

If i had friends i would also get invited to messenger scams

:alone::okay:

I will say the IWSTI or whatever and NASIOC were still pretty active recently, and my focus RS forum is very active. Instagram is a horrendous car culture app tbh

lol, maybe stranded was not the best way to phrase it. Misspoke on my part.
I was thinking more of people that run into issues with their cars. It's making this weird sound, my car is now doing this, etc. Or just simply specific things like need help installing some mod.

When you're in a specific car group where 7500 members all drive the same car you have, someone probably has encountered the exact same issue and can give you some solid advice within a few minutes. It's quite useful in that way. Specific car forums can do that too, but because they're more organized and not "free for all chat" vibe, responses also come in slower.
