Unless you were redline banging every gear I don't think the car would even idle if it was running that rich.
I literally get better mileage at the ridge lol.

100% sure, if not 100% then 95% full. I filled gas on Friday on the way home and didn’t drive it until yesterday. Oh that’s another thing. I may have redlined once or twice, definitely a chill drive. Smooth idle.

roastpuff 07-29-2024 09:21 AM

Someone stole your gas?

68style 07-29-2024 09:23 AM

Don't all old BMWs burn something to the Car Gods so they can keep running 1 more day?

Highly unlikely. The car is garage kept. lol is stealing gas still a thing?!?!

westopher 07-29-2024 10:43 AM

Check under your rear seat. Gas can come out of where the sender unit sits on top of the tank when the gaskets are worn. Sometimes depending how bad it is you could slosh a few litres out on the drive.
That gas had to go somewhere that isn't into the combustion chamber though at that point.

roastpuff 07-29-2024 11:36 AM

Wouldn't you smell all that gas sloshing out though?

trollface 07-29-2024 11:50 AM

Thanks for the gas

I mean, yeah, but I feel like you'd also smell your motor going through fuel at the same rate as a commercial jet on takeoff so I'm kinda at a loss how this all happened.

That’s what I was thinking while checking my trunk but the interior is dry

Nothing smells concerning coming from the engine. I guess I’ll go top it back up then go for a 20km drive and see how much I’ve burned.

68style 07-29-2024 03:14 PM

Gas soaked stuff is always going to feel dry, it evaporates crazy fast... best to see if it smells tho

underscore 07-29-2024 03:54 PM

The tank should be sealed off from the cabin, unless someone forgot to put the access cover back on you shouldn't be getting any liquid in the car even if it's leaking at the pump.

westopher 07-29-2024 05:12 PM

It will stay under the access cover but it will still stink.

red kryptonite 07-29-2024 09:17 PM

:rukidding: *sigh* everybody wants a project car until its time to do project car things

yray 07-29-2024 09:58 PM

maybe it's in the evap canister or gas is not returning to the gas tank

No such thing for BMWs. Don't be fooled by diy videos that make it look easy.

I find anything 96-2005 on BMWs is pretty damn easy.
Earlier can be hard cause you actually need diagnosis skills which I don't have, and newer you need a 50k diagnostic machine so it will let you install a battery lol.

That fear of "omg its going to break and engine must come out to replace __________" was there very early on in ownership. I've owned it for 1 decade now. Engine has come out twice, only for scheduled major services. Other than that, I can't actually think of any kind of issue its had that has ever left me stranded or left the car inoperable. I changed an oil pressure sensor at home a few years ago, repaired a brake light switch, changed the battery, and that is about all that required repair over a 5 year period.

Do the same drive again after checking your tank is actually full. Maybe you just were actually full the first time.

ya, just gotta wait till the weekend. but took it to the gym today (15km round trip) and the needles hasnt moved. we're off to a good start.

Last weekend, Skunkworks graciously organized a fantastic drive to Yakima, WA. Honestly, this is one of the best road trips I've done. We had everything from the great American freeway (5 lanes no traffic along a mountain pass) to no-centre line mountain touge roads. I even got pulled over lol, which the officer said I *might* get a ticket in the mail. Whatever that means.

I grossly underestimated what WA had to offer ... the roads, the scenery, and the pompous amount of Mexican restaurants lol. Oh we even stumbled across a car meet at a city hall.
