man time flies.... almost time to reinsure or store https://tnstatic.net/attachments/thu...1-jpg.1025073/ |
Just keep it insured. There's enough days all winter to make the cost worth it in comparison to storage insurance pricing. |
ya our winters are mild enough to keep it insured all year. storage insurance seems wasteful. as long as your car is in the garage it should be covered by your home insurace, no? i need to review my policy. |
Last time I did a day permit on my car it was like $40 and my full insurance is only $60 more for full coverage over storage. |
Plus the time to go get the permit. If you could do it online it might be more worth it but otherwise it's just easier to stay plated. |
$20/mo storage $38 day permit $1054 6 month policy (~$176/mo) Need to drive the car 28 times in 6 months to break even which is pretty reasonable. |
Storage was like $60 last I checked for me. Maybe different because it's not a private garage it's a condo underground. |
Storage seems to vary and it's gone up a lot in the last few years. I used to be able to do a year and not hit the $30 minimum. Last time I think it was like $57 for 3 months. $28 each time to swap plates between vehicles if I don't bother with storage but then I don't get the 10% low mileage discount on either. With the discount it's something like $980/yr each. If I run one plate and one storage with a couple of swaps a year blah blah blah math I'm at probably $1500/yr. Or plate both all year for $500 more. *note this probably isn't as much of a deal if you don't drive shitboxes like me since jing's 6 month policy costs the same as my annual one. |
Get storage from Hagerty |
Hagerty, in Ontario anyway, doesn't offer "storage" policy, per se. The cost for year-round coverage is cheaper than a regular storage policy, from, say for example, when I was originally insured with Intact Insurance, and compared with Aviva and TD. It was a bit under $800 in annual savings. Rules may be different in BC, but I do know Hagerty does insure in BC. Dick move, but Hagerty also owns MotorSportsreg.com, so be careful if you sign up for track days (if you do that sort of thing.) |
I think day permit is around $38? A day so if you drive more than 3 days a month it's cheaper to go monthly? Vs day permit + storage. I remember storage isn't cheap it's usually around $2xx for around 6 months? |
His 6 month policy is like $150 less than my full year e30 m3 policy. Hagerty insures in B.C. but I was looking at $2000 a year ON TOP of my ICBC basic coverage. It's worth it if you have a car (like my e36) that is way nicer than comparables in the market, but not worth it (like my e30) when it would be one of the cheapest on the market. |
$20/mo stored underground Paying a premium to insure for 6 months only but don't think it's only $150 more for a year in my case otherwise I'd likely do the same! I don't think my driver factor is too ridiculous but know it can be a bit lower due to some dumb accidents in my younger years. |
https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...f62f57ee_b.jpg still have this heap. it didn't come out at all last summer so it's been fun to get back to it after so long. loud, rough just abysmal NVH. but still the most fun car in the stash |
^^ can't you just collector it for cheap insurance |
looks modded... so no?!?!?! |
i don't think it would pass - although some of the local Corrado homies have gotten collectors w similar mods. but there's no real savings. I only insure it for 3 months a year - and this way i can drive it to work when it's plated |
Modified collectors is a thang |
