Sad but true. The paint on my Mazda was so thin which resulted in so many rock chips.

It's so you can spend more time staring at it on the lift/jack stands.

today i took the x5 to have my power hatch looked at, it seems to struggle on cold days. my first initial thoughts were the struts are starting to go. the car is under warranty so i thought everything is good to go. mid day i got a call from service saying the cause is from a weak battery which is not covered by warranty and because its a non warrantable part causing the problem and not the struts itself, the dialogist will have to be out of pocket ($220). they quoted me $600 for a new battery if i want to go ahead. i said no way :denied:.

the dealer here said i need to take this up with Parkshore. they said the battery should've been checked before reselling and they should replace the battery and reimburse me for the $220

wish me luck

a few weeks or few months old car with a dead battery that needs to be replaced and to be paid out of pocket is just unacceptable.

Don't BMWs use AGM batteries? My parents' old BMW OEM battery (when they bought the car new) lasted 11 years and 146000km which was pretty amazing

red kryptonite 11-04-2024 10:16 PM

its preowned, so its already a couple years old. what i find odd is the dialogist not covered if its a non warrantable part causing the problem.

Badhobz 11-05-2024 01:35 AM

If it’s a certified pre owned it should be covered under their comprehensive warranty for certified pre owned.

BMW uses AGM or Lithium. Judging from his quote his is AGM other it would be in the thousands if lithium.

I feel like all modern batteries go flat after sitting for a while, even brand new vehicles have the same problem.

noclue 11-05-2024 08:42 AM

Yeah modern cars with proximity sensors/online connectivity crap drain batteries pretty good. Use a trickle charger

underscore 11-05-2024 09:27 AM

Even the manual for my 07 Grand Cherokee said to pull certain fuses out if it's parked for more than 2 weeks.

JDMDreams 11-05-2024 09:43 AM

I parked my car for like 3 weeks and put the small CT solar charger on it and it fired up fine.

this, plus now being colder most people have all the touchpoints heated. the tech also said he can see in the past 5 weeks the cars only been doing short 10-15 min trips, which is not that much time for the battery to charge. 3 of those weeks probably sitting on the lot/going for test drive. the 2 weeks ive had it i havent done any long drives. so that checks...

It’s alive sort of. TL;DR 2 months no-crank was a revolving door of DOA new battery and DOA new starter, faulty PCM communication, WMI fault causing 20L of fluid to flow into the intake/fmic, possible hydrolock, and there’s more.

Seems ok for now but it’s not as sweet as it was. Still sounds insane though

Sounds like the kind of shit that would make me give up on a car, props to you though.

JDMDreams 11-10-2024 04:06 PM

Or is it murica thing? Making murica great again, bring dem jobs home. At least it didn't plow into a crowd yet.

320icar 11-10-2024 05:45 PM

The focus has been extremely reliable if you don’t count the things I’ve done to it. Any issues I’ve had were direct consequence to my modifications

After being in HK, do you miss driving?

Badhobz 11-16-2024 12:37 AM

Oh for sure. Nothing beats sitting in your own car.

We got chauffeured around for the most part in HK. I couldn’t deal with the mtr or ding dings so we either took cabs or just stole her relative’s drivers. Spy balloon was afraid I might accidentally trip an ah mo or turn around and push an ah bak….. who said it was accidental ?!

My daughter is gonna be like you :lawl:

We were in HK too and every time we walked into a MTR station, she would yell no train, no train.

We ended up taxiing a lot due to the kids with time and convenience.
