PSA: Drive safe out there

Fuck like what, in the last week 2 entire families have died in car accidents? Now today a motorcyclist dies, a woman dies, and someone on HWY 1 just died?

This afternoon some fucking punk kid in a BRZ obviously speeding 100+ smashed into a family right in front of ky parents house and could have easily killed them

In the last 2 weeks I’ve seen at least 5-8 people almost turn out in front of my without even looking in the direction they are turning..

My wife works for a big engineering company and outside of doing site checks very rarely, virtually none of them drive during work time and they actually had a large safety meeting and the primary reason was to highlight summer driving and the fact that summer brings out people who A) are not used to driving period, and likely going places they are not familiar with.

Had a bit of a subliminal wake up call driving in the interior recently with my own speeding and just thinking fuck, even with a well maintained vehicle with new tires, anything could fucking happen and I could be dead in an instant.

Drive safe and keep your eyes open

Badhobz 07-11-2024 03:44 PM

yeah same. i almost got killed by a bumper, the dude behind me hit that bumper and ended up pulling over to the side of the road. i wonder if it damaged his tires or something? I'm not sure.

The other day, another person almost ran into my hitlerbox.. its a warzone out there.

Driving down to Van last week someone ahead of us started drifting out of their lane and nearly hit the rear tires of a semi trailer. I had to lay on the horn before they noticed. They had a passenger to boot, idk how you don't notice that you're inches away from that.

Then on the way back up the Coq some weener in a BMW cut me off after the first time I passed him and then kept speeding up every time I started passing them again. They were perfectly fine going below the speed limit before that so idk what triggered their fragile ego there.

There's also this 5N pulling this stunt in Richmond:

i really felt the "waaaaaaaah....." watching that

I truly believe that driving is at/near the maximum cognitive skill level for most people. Basic driving tasks (such as using turn signals, looking left and right before entering a roadway, and parking evenly in a marked space) and driving rules (such as a signaling out of a roundabout and 4-way stop procedure) are just too much for many people to remember and follow, and the addition of distractions like in-car infotainment and cell phones...our roadways become the wild west.

Godspeed to us all.

something fishy going on with the examiners ?

bcrdukes 07-11-2024 05:36 PM

The only thing you need to watch out for is Badhobz and his hitlerbox.

PeanutButter 07-11-2024 06:14 PM

I am not exaggerating when I say this. I would trust my children in a Tesla with full self driving versus my mother in law driving. She's been in three accidents (all her fault) and is your typical Asian c-lai driving.
I've driven with FSD before and I can honestly say it drives better than her, I'm not being hyperbolic when I say that.

PeanutButter 07-11-2024 06:16 PM

Also, WTF is a Hitler box?
Are you referring to the German car brands?

I've heard from a few people in that field... that they're making it easier to pass. Comes from higher up, thus making it harder to fail.

That’s messed up. I can picture that, seeing that many more bad drivers out and about. People’s feelings are getting hurt too easily

I did my CDL 3 years ago, i found it reasonable the knowledge and all the “extra” things on the list to dock points off. Basic Mechanical knowledge, other driving habits like stopping too far from the stop line will dock points.
Even 9 years ago when i did my class 5 it was way too easy.

Dats the name of my gti. Hilter box. Volkswagen was invented by hitler. It’s a box shaped. So hitler box.

I’d love to see the crash statistics from 2000 to now. Modern cars have so many sensors like blind spot assist, emergency braking that should theoretically reduce accidents but then it also coincides with the rise in smartphone distracted driving. Cant hate on gen z cause whenever im at a light it’s all ages and ethnicities staring at their crotch.

Badhobz 07-11-2024 07:16 PM

I don’t use my phone but I still stare at my crotch

You still can't find Littlehobz?

I just saw a cyclist almost get smoked by a car in a traffic circle. Then they both stopped and yelled at each other for a minute. The cyclist kicked the car a few times and sped off, the car chased after him... This heat must be making everyone's driving shitty - cars and bikes.

danned 07-11-2024 09:33 PM

no where is safe

RabidRat 07-12-2024 06:01 AM

Except in a cybertruck. We should all get cybertrucks.

spoon.ek9 07-12-2024 07:56 AM

I always drive with the mindset of: expect the absolute worst from people at all times.

It's the only way to always be aware of people's unfathomable stupidity. I would argue shitty driving isn't unique to the heat. People here (in all cities, not just Richmond) are horrible in all conditions. People drive poorly in good weather and it only gets worse when it rains or snows.
