fuck it, just stick with the iphone. according to my genius wife its was all a waste of money.

me: LOOK AT THIS BACKGROUND BLUR!!!!

her: who cares! what's the point of traveling to these exotic locations if youre gonna blur out the background ?!?!

me: .... uhhh but but its not overly sharpen! and "processed"

her: i like it sharp and in focus!

me: ... SHADDUP! you dont know whats good. *fumbles with 3 lenses, dust on sensor, and 15lbs of junk when a 250gram iphone would suffice*

Only thing is now phones like 16 pro max are probably far more expensive than a complete camera setup with multiple lenses etc. lol

don't sleep on older cameras, they are still really good even if they arent as cool as the latest and greatest fujis or whatever.
i bought a used canon t6i last week with an 18-135mm IS for dirt cheap. cameras in the last 10 years or so are all really good.
once the iso became usable past 1600 unlike the first generation of DSLRs, they all became very decent at low light photos even with kit lenses.
if your goal is just general photography and nothing super specific, you can't really go wrong with literally any system in the past decade as long as you get a decent deal on it.

I've got the same lens. What do you use for close or medium distance shots?

I like how they go on and on about how advanced this thing is, and then to prove it to you, they show a picture of... that.

Spoiler!

The AF-S NIKKOR 800mm f/5.6E FL ED VR is a marvel of NIKKOR optical design. The lens is comprised of 20 elements split into 13 lens groups. The front and second elements are fluorite (a lightweight mono-crystal optical material), which provides superior optical characteristics and reduced weight for balanced handling. Two Extra-low Dispersion (ED) glass elements provide superior sharpness and colour correction by minimizing chromatic aberration, and Nano Crystal Coat (N) reduces ghosting and lens flare throughout the visible spectrum.

Lazy fucks are lazy! plus zooms are so good nowadays the benefits of a so called “fast prime” are minimal if any.

Look at my 10-18 or 18-50. Both cost me around 1k each.

How much is a 2.8 50mm prime? Or a 35mm 2.8 prime? Even an 1.8 prime or an L lens 1.4. Can you really tell the difference on the same body? Probably not and even if there is a slight improvement is it worth spending that kind of cash and not have the flexibility?

I just wanted to circle back to this. Be very carefully Hobz... because the second most expensive thing in lenses after the reach is the bokeh!!

This is the one hobby I spent more money than what I'd like to admit to my wife. I probably own like 30 different 50-60mm lenses for my hunger for bokeh.

After wife realized how much my lenses were worth as I took out a separate insurance policy for them (home insurance only covers up to $3000 per item), she asked "in the era of Photoshop, can you just photoshop those bukeh or whatever in instead of spending thousands on your lenses?"

Me: unlike you guys with your iPhones and apps, I spend thousands so I can shoot without photoshopping

Bahaha. It's just a quick shot I made from the backyard yesterday.

I'm absolutely obsessed with fore/background blur or bokeh. It's the subtle difference in how the lens draw them that excites me. It's really about what's out of focus rather than what's in focus.
