I drove 9h+ yesterday from Melbourne all along this great ocean road toward the 12 apostles. It’s a helluva of a drive with 180 degree hairpins. Not good for my body on frame truck (ford Everest) that I rented.

I wouldn’t really recommend this ocean road drive. The road surface is super bumpy and the views are more epic on the Oregon coast

If I took a direct route from Melbourne it would have only been 3h one way. But instead I took the ocean road which ended up being 5.5h and another 3h to go back home via the direct route. What a day

Heh I loved the GOR, sure it's not as scenic as California's highway 1 or even Sea to Sky but it's got this end of the world feeling that's pretty awesome.

Watch out for speed cameras in the backroads of Victoria though, I got 2 tickets going 1 km/h over the speed limit waiting for me in the mail when I got home.

I did that drive for my honeymoon. I thought it was great minus a fucking bus who won't let me pass, and I had a miserable 1.6 Corolla that didn't have enough power to force the issue.

is this similar experience to say Hawaii's / Maui's Road to Hanna.
people say it was epic water fall but it takes 2 hours of curves / turns / one days that made the experience shit...

I had the opposite experience to you - I did the GOR from Melbourne but split it up into 2 days. Was an epic drive, I enjoyed the curves in the Polestar 2 that I rented. Those 60 -> 30kph hairpins were so much fun, and the P2 handled the bumps just fine.

Posting P2 review in EV thread soon

I guess the takeaway is that compromising on car rentals for vacation isn't worth it for nitpicking enthusiasts like us.

That's a heck of a lot of time and money spent on a trip out to Australia for Hobz not to enjoy the twisties the way Roast got to.

To this day I still regret that I had to turn around on the F-road up to Þórsmörk (Thor's Valley), on a trip to Iceland. Just because we had a Kia Sportage (which to be fair, was actually pretty excellent for every other of the 8 days we spent driving Ring Road). Which had not-great ground clearance and was getting too sketchy. So much so that I can't shake the feeling I have to go back one day. Just to do it right :/.

I mean, I think I got a smoking deal for my Polestar 2 - I paid $250 for the 5 days, and charging for 1200km cost me roughly 87CAD. Gas car would've cost me twice that in gas alone.

Good to know EV rentals are still very affordable in Australia.

I did the same GOR stretch in a diesel Staria - it didn't have power but everyone was going slow anyway, so more power would've made no difference.

Hobz got better weather than I went the first time to the 12 Apostles - my first visit was wet, windy and wild. I kind of liked it more as it felt moodier, and we got to see a bonus wedding that was quite unique.

I ended up editing the photos into B&W as they felt more fitting to the mood of the day.

Sorry will stop spamming thread.

Hobz btw do NOT go into the Leica gallery/store on Little Collins St.

Repeat, do NOT DO IT - DO NOT SET FOOT IN THERE!!!!

Definitely DO NOT LET THEM PUT A RANGEFINDER M11 IN YOUR HAND!!!

I finally got pictures of that fuzzy STD ridden drop bear. It’s lazy as fuck

They said not to take any photos. But I’m Chinese and I don’t speak any Engrish. So shaddup. I wanna kick these little footballs back into the ocean. They are sooooo cute !!!!

They took their hobo alley and made it a tourist attraction. Imagine if we did that with out DTES and all the Wackjobs popping out of the alleys.

This dude looks like me after eating a buffet. I don’t see how they can be so disease ridden when they hardly have the energy to fuck.

Went to a farm as part of the whole penguin, koala, trip and it’s amazing watching these animals. I milked a cow, saw this sheep get its ass kicked by Margot Robbie and this sheep dog working. I wonder if my chihuahua would be able to chase these sheep.

Almost ran over these bouncy rats
