Let me spoil the ending for ya, arrested, on bail, arrested, on bail, arrested, on bail, kills 10 people.

Kill a cop, kill innocent elderly people, kill 10 people, nothing ever changes.

What’s the old saying? The system isn’t broken, it’s designed this way.

According to the VPD, the suspect was known to them. They didn’t give details but did say it wasn’t a terrorist attack. I bet this guy will claim to be mentally ill, get bail, and roam the streets again.

Harvey, how is a person deemed NCR, not criminally responsible, due to mental illness in a court of law in BC?

If this suspect pleads insanity, I assume that Crown counsel would have a psychiatrist administer tests on the suspect to determine if he is really mentally ill?

Ncr would be declared after an extensive forensic psychiatric evaluation

With all of the fear mongering over guns, it has to be said, that guns themselves don't kill people, and if someone is determined enough, they will find a way to kill without a gun. The real questions to ask are, who knew this guy? What were the warning signs? How did they radicalize?

If you read the news article about the threats towards this event, it almost seems like the person who did the attack could have been mad about the black performers at the event.

I'm confused why everyone is assuming this is a deliberate attack and not just an accident. With how powerful a lot of modern vehicles are it only takes a momentary mistake to end up going very fast in a very heavy machine.

Qmx323 04-27-2025 10:02 AM

Perp was extensively known to police for multiple non-criminal "events"

Of course, that isn't concrete evidence of it being deliberate, but its far more likely to be deliberate than an accident.

Police chief calls this, “the darkest day in this cities history”

Yet for most outside of the Reddit crowd, it’s just another day. 10-15 years ago everyone would have been devastated by this. Now people have come to expect this type of activity.

A week from now the crime blotter will have moved on.

Edit* for a full sized SUV to be destroyed like this, certainly wasn’t a “seniors moment”

I wonder how many of the deceased victims were TFWs / students?

I imagine their families back home would want their bodies returned. Can't imagine the costs associated with that. Does government pay for some of that, given the circumstances?

GS8 04-27-2025 10:41 AM

Remember when this happened?

https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/briti...rash-1.5127490

Over 5 years to get to the trial

https://globalnews.ca/news/10834510/...l-crash-trial/

Accused's Wife's testimony

https://www.surreynowleader.com/loca...-stand-7622398

End result after almost 6 years

https://globalnews.ca/news/11137394/...led-bc-pastor/

I watched the video. When this body-positive individual left the courtroom, he literally got into the driver's seat of a car (an Audi A6 actually) and drove away. Talk about insult to injury for the family. The widow literally asked where the justice for them was.

eye witness account of what happened.

He said they lifted the barrier and let a car in. Picked up speed, hit someone on the right side, then he slammed his gas and then rammed into 100's of people.

He said, it looked like a bowling ball hitting bowling pins as people were flying through the air.

I think with the new information it's more clear this wasn't an accident.

He was let inside the barrier and then he went off.

This had to be premeditated.

Time to ban cars, the same way the govt banned guns. Since we know people arent the issue, but the tool they used to do so

At the same time I'd expect someone with mental health issues to be more likely to freeze up if they accidentally hit the throttle.

Either way I'm sure we'll find out more once there's a bit of a proper investigation and we're not just going off of sensstionalized headlines from Instagram "news" reports.

Hondaracer 04-27-2025 12:19 PM

Oh yea, that justifies it :lol

Weren’t you the same person that said drinking and driving is never an innocent crime? Yet you’re trying to rationalize mowing down 11 people :lol

 Are you legit?

underscore 04-27-2025 12:35 PM

Yes lets empathize with those poor drunk drivers who have killed people because it definitely wasn't a choice they had made repeatedly, and jump to conclusions about everything else with zero investigation.

Hondaracer 04-27-2025 12:57 PM

Everything was building to an event like this. Anyone could see it.

Vancouver IS a place where things like this happen.

Canada IS a place where this happens.

If anything it’s a miracle it doesn’t happen more often

underscore 04-27-2025 01:04 PM

Take a break from the right wing doom and gloom news feed man.

Badhobz 04-27-2025 01:07 PM

Whatever the cause, this retard needs to go. Intentional or not. No justice for the families until this idiot is also 6 feet under.

Sadly, who knows what was going through this guy's head. But seriously, without Filipinos, we'd all be a lot worse off. They are an amazing community of people.

It’s political to the degree that almost certainly details will come out that this will be another example of how the system failed someone and it ultimately culminated in this.

CivicBlues 04-27-2025 01:55 PM

Why am I not surprised, the usual suspects already making this political before any of the blood has dried. And our resident meth head trying to turn this into a race war for some reason.

SUV drives through Lapu Lapu Day Festival - Fraser & 41st - Multiple Casualties

News reports that I read this morning mention that Jagmeet was at the Lapu Lapu festival.

He left the festival a few minutes before that driver went on a rampage.

Nothing political about the actual incident.

The festival could be initially political from the NDP’s point of view if Jagmeet was at the festival to get more votes, support for his party.

Then all hell broke loose with that driver.

Let’s wait until police complete their investigation first before jumping to conclusions that the incident was politically motivated.

We have no idea what is going on in that suspect’s head, right?

We don’t know his medical history, or state of mental health. Let’s wait for more information to be brought into the public first before making conclusions.

From what some Philippino acquaintances tell me, the Philippino community in greater Vancouver is pretty tight knit. Plenty of support from people within their community for each other and from Philippino church members now.

They need all the emotional support that they can get now after this horrific incident.

Compassion and empathy.
