the only time i can see that making any sense at all is if you're having a conversation with someone and you want someone else in the room to hear what they are saying.
funny you guys bring it up i was driving a few days ago and saw an indian girl talking like that while crossing the street...
some people have difficulty positioning their ear over the speaker on their phones. others use speakerphone because they're hard of hearing.
and if i had to guess, holding the phone like a slice of pizza is because they're projecting their difficulty hearing towards who they're talking to. if i can't hear that means you can't hear so let me speak with the phone directly in front of my mouth and then point the speaker at my ear while speakerphone is on lol.
it definitely bothers me too but i find i'm more forgiving when it's an elderly person. if you're some young ass mofo who's just being inconsiderate to everyone around you, then ya fuck that person. old people? ok, sure.
There's a disturbing trend (which isn't new) where Asians will watch a video with full volume while eating at a restaurant. How is that even acceptable or appropriate?
I think you guys should join in on the conversation next time! they want everyone to hear what's going on so clearly you can add your comments too right? I would think Hobz would love doing shit like this being the shit disturber he is and all
Asian aunties be warned! lots of DLLM coming into your conversations soon
when i was walking around with my meta glasses talking on the phone, i assume b/c i had no earbuds and people saw me talking they thought i was talking to them.
it defeats the purpose, but i've had to hold my phone in the pizza manner so people won't walk up to me asking what i'm asking them, so they know i'm on the phone and ain't talking to them. i found it stupidly ironic
Funny you say that. I also took Waymo yesterday during my layover at SFO to visit a friend, it reminds me of fsd v11. The acceleration and braking felt very robotic. Regardless, Waymo is not designed to scale. One could argue that hardware cost would eventually be driven down, but the constant need of HD mapping and the continuous update of it made scaling with it impossible.
If anything, there’s nothing Tesla fsd can’t do that only Waymo could. Either now or the future. I drive with fsd on a daily basis and it’s a matter of time it’s safer than human and not if.
I agree that autonomous is the future. But it’s definitely not the way Waymo is heading.
They're scaling pretty good. Just announced next service will be London UK, which is also the first location they operate that has inclement weather but no snow. Did you see their Zeekr china van made solely for them roaming around SF? Looks pretty neat and from what I read they drove the cost down to 70K USD with the lidar system (Before China tariffs).

Either way cool stuff coming.
Have you seen their expansion the last 5yrs? If Tesla didn't expanded in Austin so quickly, they wouldn't have expanded either. The reason is simple. It cost them huge amount of money to expand. Their cars are more expensive. Their maps are more expensive and just about anything in their operation (say partnering with Uber) is more expensive than Tesla.
The market is never about which solution is better, it's always about which one is the most cost effective. With Google being reluctant on continuing to fund Waymo, unless Waymo finds a way to reach profitability, its days are counted.
It's not the contents that are getting wet, I just don't like having an outer shell that gets wet so easily. I often keep some paperwork in my backpack. Also, for vacation purposes a WR/WP backpack would be nice.

I'm surprised people assumed you were talking to them, because for the longest time since Bluetooth earpieces were invented, people have been yapping away on their phone without any obvious signs of them holding onto a phone. At least, that's what a gob ton of Chinese people do.
And this was the time when single Bluetooth earpiece was popular.
I still see people doing this all the time, except that nowadays, the single Bluetooth earpiece is replaced with AirPods or something along those lines. People still yap away, or maybe they are just giving voice commands to their phones. I dunno.
