Sonick is a genius. I won't go into detail what's so great about his post. But it's damn good!

A retired colleague of mine picked up a classic BMW cabriolet (which year/model is unknown at this point.) He asked for any reputable shops in the GVRD to restore it. I'm not sure what condition its in so let's assume it's will require a full makeover. Any leads appreciated!
Edit: Update - It's a 2002 3 series - 325ci. As per colleague, "Needs shocks, probably steering column, check engine light is on but BMW not sure why, etc. etc."

Of all the ones he can get, he got a pre facelift E46 with the small engine.... I'd say Nixon for that era, but it's gonna cost him a fortune. Better off finding one that's in good nick to begin with than spend loads on a car that's really not worth anything at the end. Unless this particular example holds some significance to him (grandpas car or something)

Tell him to send pics and a list of what he was told it needs and send it to me. I’ll point him somewhere pending that.

Oh, turns out they moved to North Van near Lions Gate Bridge. They were in White Rock before.
I'm not sure they got an estimate on any of the work and these are likely guesses. I'll dig more information to see what's up, but let's work with this for now.

For north van I’d recommend Leah’s, I’ve also heard Bruno is good but no experience there.
If it’s actually deeper work I have a couple friends who are just starting some independent shops elsewhere who are very era specific for those BMWs, but curious if the scope before I send someone there as I’m not sure how much they could take on.

If you want a cheaper, non-shop option, Skunkworks (on RS) does a fantastic job with E46s.. seeing that he had many e46 non-M's and now the self built E46 M3 wagon.

Leah's is the place to go, she does incredible work and knows everything in/out. I've been friends with her sister for years and its great how Leah has been growing her business.
she has earned it!! a woman in the industry is beyond hard with all the dudes out there that are straight up sexist. I've heard so many stories about how comfortable woman are bringing their vehicles to her because they know they can trust her unlike so many mechanics that will still trying to rip a woman off even in this day and age.
On a similar topic, if I wanted to get some camber plates, and a better suspension setup on the G87 M2 is CG still the place? I hear people grumble about them sometimes.
Maybe Overdrive?
People near Nanaimo are amazing with classics, but I'm not so sure with a newish car.
I don't think camber plates is ever a bad idea with BMWs if you do heavy driving. CG has had some, let's say, uneven reviews in the last few years but I've never been and I can't tell you.
Both our cars go to Overdrive, in fact the X5 is going today for oil change.
I went to look at a classic car today, the seller stated the car was mint inside and out. (with mechanical issues that were mentioned before i viewed it)
After arriving i found mold on the ceiling due to sunroof leak.
I think he confused mint with mold
Bonus: the exterior was growing algae by the centimeter. I guess that is mint in color
I grilled him a fb review, hopefully that prevents at least one other person wasting their time
